  5. School hours and Break times • School starts at 845.am. • School finishes at 2.45 pm. Tues- Fri and 2.00 Monday • There are 4 lessons each day. • There is a Home group meeting every day • There is one lunch break on Monday and 2 breaks on Tuesday- Friday • First break is for 40 minutes and second break is for 30 minutes.

  6. Lunch breaks Students may bring a packed lunch from home OR buy their lunch at the school canteen. Please be patient at the Canteen – you must line up and wait your turn for service.

  7. LESSONS • Lessons are 70 minutes. • A class roll is checked in EVERY lesson. • Students move from one classroom to another for different lessons. • You line up outside the classroom with your books out that you need for the class. • The teacher will ask you to enter the classroom and stand behind your desk until you are invited to sit . • You need to raise your hand if you need to talk to the teacher. • You need to stay seated at your desk during the lesson.

  8. House Group Meetings You must attend House meetings every day Your House group teacher will tell you about important information that you need to know. Attendance will be checked.

  9. Assemblies Year level assemblies - one year level. These assemblies are in the Multipurpose Shelter or Performing Arts Block. House Group Assemblies Full School Assemblies occur in Term 2 and 3. These assemblies are in the grassed area outside the Library. All 2100 students participate.

  11. Sports Houses At Kirwan there are 6 House Groups that compete in the swimming, cross country and athletics carnivals. • Cook Crocodiles – Blue • Elliot Eagles – Green • Louisa Lions – Orange • Stuart Sharks – Yellow • Castle Saints – White • Magnetic Marlins – Purple

  12. House Group A House group has students from each year level (7-12) Students will stay in the same House Group while they are at Kirwan SHS Families will be in the same House Group

  13. School Attendance Policy Your Student Visa requires you to attend school every day, except if you are sick or on a school approved activity. Failure to meet this requirement may result in DIAC sending you home.

  14. If you are sick… Homestay parent to: • phone the school on 4773 8108 or • email absences@kirwanshs.eq.edu.au If you are sick for 2 or more days, you MUST ALSO contact Lorraine • 4773 8165 or • lduve1@eq.edu.au

  15. If you are late to school… You MUST bring a note explaining why you are late. • If you arrive BEFORE9.15am, you MUST go straight to your class and give the note to your teacher. • If you arrive AFTER 9.15am, you MUST go straight to the Student Counter and get a Late Note and then go to class. Give this Late Note to your teacher.

  16. If you are late to class… If you have been helping a teacher in class, you MUST get a note from them to give to your next teacher explaining why you are late. If you have no valid reason for being late, expect to get a detention.

  17. If you need to leave school during the day….. You must NEVER leave the school grounds without permission from the school. • If you need to leave, you MUST have a note from your Homestay parent. • Take this note to the Student counter during break time. • You will be given a pass which you MUST take with you.

  18. If you lose something…. • Go back to the room where you left the item. • If it is not there, go to the student counter and check the Lost property Box.

  19. If you are feeling sick…. If you feel sick in class • Tell your teacher who will give you a note to take to the Student counter.

  20. If you are injured at school in class… • Let your teacher know. You will get a note to go to the Student Counter to receive First aid. • If the injury is serious, an ambulance will be called.

  21. Student Counter Opening Hours 8.00am to 3.00pm Monday to Friday. Students are not to go to the Student Counter during class time without a note from the teacher. You can go before school and during the two lunch breaks.

  22. If you bring money to pay for School camps… Any money brought to school e.g. to pay for camps, must be taken to the Student Counter IMMEDIATELY on your arrival to school. You will be given a receipt for all payments made.

Uniform policy HPE / SPORT Teal sport shorts with school logo The school polo shirt with logo White socks which cover the ankle or KSHS socks Sports shoes Students are to change into their HPE/Sport uniform at the beginning of the HPE/Sport lesson and change back into dress uniform immediately after the lesson.

  25. Uniform policy - Hair • Neat and tidy • Vision should not be obstructed • Hairstyles should not be a safety hazard in practical classes • Long hair should be tied back • Outlandish colours and styles are not acceptable

  26. Uniform policy - Jewellery One watch Plain bracelet Two pairs of sleeper earrings or two pairs of plain studs One plain chain necklace and one plain ring No other form of jewellery or adornment is to be worn No Facial piercings and spacers, of any colour, including clear ones

  27. Uniform policy: Make-up No eye make-up or excessive facial make-up is to be worn

  28. School Expectations • Items not allowed at school • aerosol cans, chewing gum • Mobile Phones • Must be turned off, in bags and not used in class.
