2. 2010 State 4-H Junior Leader Conference June 15th- 18th, 2010 University of Indianapolis

3. Jr. Leader Conference is for: • 4-H Junior Leaders who have completed 9th-12th Grade. • Those who want to learn new leadership skills for themselves and others.

4. Jr. Leader Conference is for: • Those willing to shareknowledgethey gain with those at home. • Those who want to meet new friends from around Indiana. • Those who want to have fun!!!

5. How do I register? • Tell your County 4-H Youth Extension Educator that you are interested in attending. • Follow County guidelines for applying or signing up for a chance to attend. • State registration deadline is May 15. (County registration deadline will be earlier.)

6. Where is Jr. Leader Conference held? • The conference will be held at the University of Indianapolis. • We’ll stay in a collegedorm; have sessions in college classrooms and in the auditorium; and eat in the student center cafeteria.

7. When is Jr. Leader Conference? • Conference will begin at 12 noon on Tuesday, June 15. • Entertainment, enjoyment, and energy will be experienced by all for 4 days!!! • We’ll conclude before 12 noon on Friday, June 18.

20. Aerospace Workshop Build model rockets and planes Take a ride in a small airplane, Learn about the principles of flight and career opportunities

21. Ambassador Workshop Learn to be a spokesperson for 4-H on the county level Develop your skills in the areas of radio, public presentations, news writing, and marketing 4-H

22. Animal Science Workshop • Species include… • aquaculture, • beef, • dairy, • goat (dairy and meat), • horse, • poultry, • sheep, • rabbit, • swine and • vet science – large animals • vet science – small animals

23. Computer Workshop • Learn new and emerging trends in the computer science industry. • Tracks- • FLASH: Add action to your homepage. • 3-D Modeling: Turn flat, boring graphics into 3-D images that appear to jump off the screen.

24. Engineering Science Workshop • Learn- • how robots operate, • what makes a good fuel for internal combustion engines, • how computers draw without pencils, • how to select the best vegetable/fruit variety for mechanical harvesting, and • how to surf the Internet. • The program will also introduce you to careers in various engineering fields.

25. Entomology Science Workshop • Learn about insect structure and function, insect forensics, aquatic insects, and more! • Opportunities: • Learn about research that the Purdue Department of Entomology is working on • Interact with Purdue faculty and staff

26. Food Science & Nutrition Workshop • Interested in foods, science and being part of an exciting and rapidly expanding industry? • You will have an opportunity to: • get acquainted with faculty members, university departments and the Purdue campus. • determine taste, smell, and texture of foods. • work in labs to process foods, make ice cream, and make alternative sweeteners. • share what you learned about food science and nutrition with other youth.

27. Plant Science Workshop • You will learn: • Cutting edge aspects of plant science • A wide array of information on plant science • About individuals and departments at Purdue University • About careers in agriculture and educational opportunities at Purdue University

28. Mission to Mars Workshop • Topic: the complex issues of traveling to and living on Mars • Hands-on activities, based on current NASA research • Students will learn about: • Plant growth, • ecosystems, • recycling, • food production, and • Mars habitats.

29. Electric Workshop • June 18th-20th, 2010, Purdue University • For members in Division III or above • Opportunities: • Wire switches and receptacles or an entire 4-way circuit using a computerized wiring program. • Wire (hands-on) switches and receptacles, both two and three-way. • Design and build a magnetic powered flashlight. • Learn how to use the various meters to measure electrical current, voltage and resistance. • Build an electronic "Decision Maker".

30. State 4-H Band June 19th-21st, 2010 at Purdue University Performance at 4-H Round-Up Written application includes a recommendation by band director and/or instrument instructor. 4-H Band is for members who are in grades 9-12.

31. State 4-H Chorus June 19th- 23rd, 2010 at Purdue University Performances at 4-H Round-Up and at the Indiana State Fair Written application includes a recommendation by a vocal and/or choral instructor. 4-H Chorus is for members who are in grades 9-12.

32. 4-H Youth Round-Up June 21st- 23rd, 2010 at Purdue University Youth who have completed grades 7-9 Explore careers at Purdue University. Live in a Purdue Residence Hall, meet youth from across Indiana, and attend leadership sessions.

33. National 4-H Conference March 20th- March 25th, 2010 in Washington D.C. for members in grades 10-12 Meet 4-H members from across the nation and experience leadership training Application due December 1st; contact County Extension Office for details.

34. Citizenship Washington Focus June 26- July 3rd,Washington D.C. Must be at least 15 years old Experience the nation’s capitol by taking tours, visiting dignitaries and law makers, and seeing some of our country’s most beautiful sites.

35. National 4-H Dairy Conference September 26th- September 30th, 2010 Held in Madison, WI for members 10th grade and above

36. Indiana 4-H Youth Congress October 2th, 2010 For members in Grades 8-12 Indiana State Fairgounds Experience leadership and essential skills training with 4-H members from across Indiana. Keynote speakers Banquet honoring 4-H Accomplishment Scholarship winners

State Fair Achievement Trip • October 27th- October 31st, 2010, Washington, D.C. • Award trip sponsored by Indiana State Fair Board • Delegates are winners from… • Public Speaking/Demonstration • Fashion Revue • Tractor Driving • Bicycle Rodeo • State 4-H/FFA Career Development Events • Rabbit and Poultry Illustrated Talks • Rabbit Ambassadors

38. National 4-H Congress November 26th– November 30th, 2010 Atlanta, Georgia Students in Grades 9-12 Selection via state application process due January 15. Contact County Extension Office for details.

39. State Fair 4-H Exhibit Building Workers 4-H members at least 15 years old by the start of work End of July through the end of the Indiana State Fair, 2010 (full and part-time positions available) Assist with 4-H Exhibit Building set-up, check-in, judging, tear-down, and public relations with fair-goers. Applications available through County Extension office and are due April 1.

40. 4-H Scholarships • Indiana 4-H Foundation - Grade 12 applicants; for any post secondary education • 4-H Accomplishment - Grade 10-12 applicants • State 4-H Club - Grade 12, based in part on financial need, students at Purdue in College of Agriculture or Consumer and Family Sciences • Applications due January 15; contact County Extension Office for more details

41. Key Club Award Award to recognize members for their tenure and participation in the 4-H Program. Members who have at least a 5-year tenure and who are 4-H Jr. Leaders may apply Application forms are available from the County Extension Office. Forms due to State 4-H Office by June 15.
