Positive points on IYCF • Nationalpolicy: • A national IYCF/BF policy has been officially approved by the government • The policy promote • Initiative BF within 1 hours after birth • Exclusive BF for the first 6 months • Complementary feeding to be started after 6 months • Continued BF up to 2 years and beyond
Positive points on IYCF (cont.) • A national plan of action developed with the policy • Maternity leave (with pait) for 4 months (hopefully it will be 6 months in next year) • Create/establish “Baby friendly hospital initiative” from 1995
Positive points on IYCF (cont.) • Implementation of the International code. All articles of the Code as law • IYCF’s monitoring system was developed and good maintained
Negative points on IYCF • Optimal BF practices are not good as expected • Monitoring for maintaining BFHI have been done but not successfully • Code’s violation can be seen not only in free market but also event in health facilities
Negative points on IYCF (cont.) • Coordination between Gov. and within Gov. agencies, Gov. and non Gov. agencies is not strong enough • BF support and promote for lactating women in emergency situation is received attention inadequately • Limited fund supporting for IYCF activities from Gov. and donors
Challenges • Modern life effects to BF pattern of women • Effect of wisdom advertising and attack from formula companies by profit • Inadequate coordination between agencies
