How it Works • State provides existing data • State and TGS agree on the best way to update / improve data • State coordinates improvement effort • TGS updates / improves data • Improved data is returned to state • State determines how its data will be handled / protected for non Federal users. • Improved data is provided to NGA • No cost to state
How is Data Verified? Phone calls and reference layers are used to locate entities/assets relative to base map layers. We call this process PinPointing
Benefits • Allows officials at all levels of government to have Common Operating Data • Allows local officials to plan and train with the same data that they and the Feds will use in an emergency. • Maximizes tax payer dollars: build once, use multiple times. • Harnesses local knowledge to enable more meaningful and accurate data. • National coordination assures seamless, complete, nationwide data. • Federal resources being provided to help gather, update and verify data. • More Feedback on data quality from local users

WHO ARE WE? • The Alabama Association of Regional Councils is composed of twelve regions. • Each region is a public organization and encompasses multi-jurisdictional community. • All 67 counties are supported by RPCs • Regional councils are a "service arm" of local governments. Their activities are directed in response to local needs.
RPCs GEOSPATIAL DATA • A majority of GIS DATA used by the RPCs is reference data. • The Source of the data used depend on their availability and need; Federal, State and Local. • Each RPC creates, maintains, and updates a variety of in-house data for planning and economic development.
SUPPORTING HSIP • The AARC GIS Taskforce adopted to consolidate best available data as identified by the NSDI Framework approach. • Town and Municipal Limits are being consolidated statewide
The completed Town and Municipal Limits will be submitted to TGS via FTP by the individual RPCs • AARC participation has been endorsed by AEMA and ALGO • Future efforts: Statewide Street Centerlines
