  1. 11-19-12 • DSQ 24B • CH due Monday, November 26th • Clean notes • Take good notes with spaces, organized OBJ • To understand the state of a solid • To understand a crystal pattern

  2. HOW MATTER CHANGES PROJECT DUE: none TEST: Dec. 14th

  3. SOLIDS • ALL solids have fixed shape & volume • The particles of a solid are tightly packed together

  4. 11-26-12 • DSQ QUIZ-Correct • Correct & Assign CH due 11-30-12 REVIEW • What two things do all solids have? OBJ • What are crystals & crystal pattern • What the particles look like in a solid • What is the melting point

  5. CRYSTALS • Crystals- The pattern of particles packed together in a repeating order. • True solids are made of crystals

  6. SOLIDS This is what the particles of a solid look like

  7. MELTING POINT • Melting Point- The temperature at which a solid turns to a liquid. • Ice (solid) turns to a water (liquid) at 33 degrees Fahrenheit or 1 degrees Celsius • The strength of the attraction affects on how easily a solid can change to a liquid

  8. 11-27-12 • DSQ 25A • CH due 11-30-12 REVIEW • Solids have 2 things? • What are crystals • Crystal pattern • Attraction of solids OBJ • To understand what liquids • Boiling point & Evaporation • Calculators for tomorrow

  9. LIQUID • A liquid takes the shape of the container it is in

  10. LIQUID • This is what the particles of a liquid look like

  11. BOILING POINT • Boiling Point- The temperature at which a liquid has enough heat energy to change a liquid to a gas. • Water boils at 212 degrees Fahrenheit or 100 degrees Celsius. • Evaporation- When liquid changes to a gas---the liquid particles escape What two things can help improve evaporation?

  12. 11-28-12 • DSQ 25B • CH due 11-30-12 REVIEW • Solids have 2 things • What are crystals • Crystal pattern • Attraction of solids • What shape does a liquid take OBJ • What is boiling point • What is evaporation • Assign CH

  13. 11-29-12 • DSQ 26A • Check Cups 1-4 • Ch due 11-30-12 REVIEW • Solids have 2 things • What are crystals • Crystal pattern • Attraction of solids • What shape does a liquid take OBJ • How to convert Fahrenheit to Celsius or Celsius to Fahrenheit • F= 9/5 C + 32 C= 5/9 (F – 32)

  14. 11-30-12 • DSQ 26B • Correct & Assign CH due 12-4-12 • Evaporation Data • Test-Friday, December 14th REVIEW • Solids have 2 things • What are crystals • Crystal pattern • Attraction of solids • What shape does a liquid take • What is the boiling point/melting point • Evaporation OBJ • To boil water & convert temperatures

  15. 12-3-12 • DSQ 26A • CH due 12-4-12 • Check Evaporation (Cups 1-4) REVIEW • Solids have 2 things • What are crystals • Crystal pattern • Attraction of solids • What shape does a liquid take • Convert: 7 C & 48 F OBJ • How are solids and liquids alike. How are solids and liquids different

  16. SOLIDS ALIKE SOLIDS DIFFERENT LIQUIDS ALIKE LIQUIDS DIFFERENT COMPARING A SOLID & LIQUID

  17. 12-4-12 • DSQ 26B Quiz Questions • Correct & Assign CH due 12-7-12 • Evaporation Data • Test-Thursday, December 14th REVIEW • Solids have 2 things • What are crystals • Crystal pattern • Attraction of solids • What shape does a liquid take • What is the boiling point/melting point/freezing point • Evaporation • How are solids & liquids alike & different OBJ • What does a gas look like • To understand characteristics of a gas-condensation

  18. FREEZING POINT • Freezing Point- The temperature at which a liquid turns to a solid • The freezing point of water is 32 degrees Fahrenheit and 0 degrees Celsius

  19. GAS • A gas has no fixed shape or volume. • Gas is all around us • Particles move fastest in a gas. • Gas has the most heat energy • Condensation- When enough heat energy is lost a gas changes to a liquid---dew on the grass or frost on your windows

  20. GAS • This is what the particles of a gas look like

  21. 12-5-12 • DSQ Quiz-Correct • CH 12-7-12 • Assign WS • Evaporation Data • Test-Thursday, December 14th REVIEW • Solids have 2 things • What are crystals • Crystal pattern • Attraction of solids • What shape does a liquid take • What is the boiling point/melting point/freezing point • Evaporation • How are solids & liquids alike & different • Gas OBJ • 9 Square Drawing
