Our Mission Our volunteers deliver relevant, hands-on experiences that give students from kindergarten through high school knowledge and skills in financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship.
The Need for Junior Achievement Teens are lacking financial confidence - JA USA and The Allstate Foundation survey: Just 56% of kids 14 -18 think they will be as financially well-off, or better off, than their parents. That's a huge plunge from 89% in 2011.1 -Teens are not workforce ready 8 out of 10 IL jobs require more than a high school diploma, but only 29% of IL 9th graders go on to obtain a 2 or 4 year degree2 (1) 2012 JA USA/Allstate Foundation “Teens and Personal Finance” Survey (2) Advance Illinois Report, 2012
e A Strong Record of Success The largest JA office: 431,281 students in 2011-2012 with support of 13,000+ volunteers annually - 2012-2013 Goal: reach 445,000 students Educators trust us: overall JA program rating of 9.3 on 10 point scale Low cost model: only $14 to reach each student per year; no United Way or government funding
Our Proven Impact JA high school students are more likely to aspire to college & beyond • The JA Difference • - Kids in JA elementary school programs are stronger problem solvers than those who don’t experience JA • - Middle school students boost their business knowledge
Get Involved, It's Simple! Our Supporters: Since 1940, JA has been fortunate to be supported by many of Chicago’s most established leadership and organizations
JA in a Day: How it Works • A one-day format from K – 8th grade: Volunteers deliver a grade-specific program over a 4-5 hour period, covering all lessons in one day • Equal outcomes for both delivery methods: JA's longitudinal studies indicate that the delivery method (JA in a Day or Weekly) does not comprise the student's learning. • We provide training, lesson plans, and classrooms materials: volunteers will have to prepare for at least 90-120 minutes prior to JA in a Day program date.
