  2. In 2015 ……. • Earth Systems Science is the “capstone” course at the High School level in all the states. • Every student and every teacher has easy access to NASA materials and Earth System Concepts. • Public, as a whole, is environmentally conscience and literate. Envisioning the Future

  3. In 2015… • Student-led research is promoted and commonplace • We live in a World without Borders creating a Global Society • The Space Station is an active and viable Daily Classroom in Space. Envisioning the Future

  4. NASA has a strong Education Office that Integrates with…. • Outside Entities as Partners • State Departments of Education and state alliances • What schools need Envisioning the Future

  5. As Only NASA Can means…. • We recognize our niches are vast BUT…. we have aligned our specialties and support materials in match state and school curriculum needs Envisioning the Future

  6. User Needs DRIVE Everything • Do NOT focus on missions RATHER content and create focused products - by topic instead • Process could begin with state needs assessments - market research, ASK what needs are and design from there. Envisioning the Future

  7. User Needs DRIVE Everything • Sufficient funding of high priority NASA educational activities • Every student and every teacher has access to NASA materials and Earth system Concepts Envisioning the Future

  8. NASA Helps Schools Systemically • NASA helps schools move forward with ideas about how to change / improve science, including Earth System Science. • More work is done to impact states and DOEs like with the NASSMC Linking Leaders Meetings. Envisioning the Future

  9. NASA Helps Schools Systemically • Need More AESPs and More Dollars to Expand Services and In-depth Training with…. NASA Explorer Schools, Aerospace Education Services Program, NASA content, GLOBE, Pedagogy, Professional Development for Teachers, Family Science Nights Envisioning the Future

  10. NASA Helps Schools Systemically • Partnering with state alliances and state level offices in long-term relationships with science personnel involved in training students / teachers • NASA has data to show improvement in scores and documents its successes Envisioning the Future

In 2050… NASA Programs and Materials are accessible to everyone on Earth, Moon and Mars NASA Data are Used To: • Solve environmental concerns via learning communities • Help adults make informed decisions • Work with sociologists and economists to make for a better world Envisioning the Future

  13. In 2050, Tomorrow’s Classroom Students Will: • Access data with personal supercomputers • Collect data with tricorders • Display data using holographic displays • Use robots to explore remote environments • Visit Moon, Mars and other celestial bodies with videocam Envisioning the Future
