2. Nature Declares That God Is (Psalm 19)! 1 The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament showeth his handiwork. 2 Day unto day uttereth speech, And night unto night showeth knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language; Their voice is not heard. 4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, God Has Power & Understanding (Gen. 1)! 1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

INTRO: Science has achieved much… • Laws of Nature • Law of Gravity (Newton) • Law of Electromagnetism (Maxwell) • Structure of the atom (Bohr, and others) • Periodic table (chemical properties) • DNA structure • Cell chemistry • Computers, electricity, vaccines, surgery, vehicles (ground, air, space), etc.! • Yet understanding how something works is not the same as understanding it’s origin!

4. INTRO: Evolution Is An Attempt To Explain Nature WITHOUT God… • A PBS TV series on evolution claims that: • All known scientific evidence support evolution • Virtually every reputable scientist in the world support evolution • School text books on evolution all proclaim that “Evolution is a proven fact” • Is this overwhelming evidence? Is (macro) evolution fact?

5. INTRO: General Evolution is NOT a fact! • Immediately after the PBS TV series, 100 scientists (from well-known universities like MIT, Yale, Emory, etc) published a 2-page ad in the newspaper “The Weekly Standard”: • Public TV programs, education policy statements, and science textbooks have asserted that Theory of Evolution fully explains the complexity of living things. The public has been assured, most recently by spokespersons for PBS's Evolution series, that "all known scientific evidence support evolution" as does "virtually every reputable scientist in the world.” ----- The following scientists DISPUTE the first claim and stand as LIVING TESTIMONY in contradiction to the second.. (followed by the names of these 100 scientists)

Vision, motion, and other biological functions have proven to be no less sophisticated than television cameras and automobiles. Science has made enormous progress in understanding how the chemistry of life works, but the elegance and complexity of biological systems at the molecular level have paralyzed science’s attempt to explain their origins.” (Behe, Darwin’s Black Box, p. x)

11. I. INVISIBLE THINGS (Col. 1:16) • “The cumulative results show with piercing clarity that life is based on machines – machines made of molecules! Molecular machines haul cargo from one place in the cell to another along ‘highways’ made of other molecules, while still others act as cables, ropes, and pulleys to hold the cell shape. Machines turn cellular switches on and off, sometimes killing the cell or causing it to grow. Solar-powered machines capture the energy of photons and store chemicals. Electrical machines allow current to flow through nerves. Manufacturing machines build other molecular machines, as well as themselves. Cells swim using machines, copy themselves with machinery, ingest food with machinery. In short, highly sophisticated molecular machines control every cellular process. Thus the details of life are finely calibrated, and the machinery of life enormously complex.” (Behe, Darwin’s Black Box, p. 4-5)

INVISIBLE THINGS (Col. 1:16) ~ 50 Trillion Cells in a human body. 50,000,000,000,000 Cell 0.01 mm Encyclopedia Britannica: “A living cell is a marvel of detailed and complex architecture. . . . INVISIBLE THINGS (Col. 1:16) • Molecular biologist Dr. Michael Denton: “To grasp the reality of life as it has been revealed by molecular biology, we must magnify a cell a thousand million times until it is twenty kilometers in diameter and resembles a giant airship large enough to cover a great city like London or New York. What we would then see would be an object of unparalleled complexity and adaptive design. On the surface of the cell we would see millions of openings, like the portholes of a vast spaceship, opening and closing to allow a continual stream of materials to flow in and out. If we were to enter one of these openings we would find ourselves in a world of supreme technology and bewildering complexity.” (Michael Denton, “Evolution: A Theory in Crisis” Bethesda, MD: Adler & Adler, 1986). 12 ½ miles

Life only uses left-handed molecules! • The odds in favor of the chance formation of a functional simple cell are acknowledged to be worse than 1 in 1040,000. Effectively ZERO. (Fred Hoyle, The Intelligent Universe, New York, NY: Holt, Rinehart, and Winston, 1983). • Roughly, that’s like rolling two dice and getting double-sixes 50,000 times in a row with unloaded dice. COMPLEXITY OF CELLS Amino-acids: building blocks of life The right arrangement of atoms coming together to make the right combination of (left handed!) amino-acid molecules, in the right order to make millions of proteins… arranged properly to make just ONE CELL… Cell = An Accident? Millions of proteins!

COMPLEXITY OF CELLS • With all our current advanced knowledge and technologies, we cannotmake a living cell from scratch... • Even breaking apart a living cell to its elements, we cannot reform it… • “The complexity of life’s foundation has paralyzed science’s attempt to account for it; molecular machines raise an as-yet-impenetrable barrier to Darwinism’s universal reach.” (Behe, Darwin’s Black Box, p. 5)

19. III. EVOLUTION’S “EVIDENCE” FAILS • Early biology LIMITED to the eye. • Eye can resolve objects as small as 1/10 mm. Thus, only the general structure was visible to early scientists. • Spectacles were common in the 15th century. But not combined as convex and concave lenses in a tube until 17th century. • Matthias Schleiden & Theodor Schwan (Mid 1800s) developed idea that bodies are composed of cells.

EVOLUTION’S “EVIDENCE” FAILS • Early biology LIMITED by early microscopes. • For physical reasons a microscope cannot resolve two points that are closer than half the wavelength of light. • Cells are small enough that many of their details and functions cannot be seen through a normal lens microscope. • Thus, in 1800s cells were “simple” considered blobs…

21. III. EVOLUTION’S “EVIDENCE” FAILS • Spontaneous Generation “Observed” • People “saw” small animals & insects come out of spoiled food. They thought these creatures were SIMPLE (Ex. Insects = no internal organs). • As microscope revealed more details, cells… • It then seemed reasonable that “simple” organisms could arise from liquids. • Ernst Haeckel’s view of the cell: “simple little lump of albuminous combination of carbon” (like microscopic jello). (Behe p. 24)

EVOLUTION’S “EVIDENCE” FAILS • Evolutionary “Observations” Disproven • Louis Pasteur 1864 disproved spontaneous generation. • Later microscopes revealed cells are NOT simple… • Also, Simple Intermediate Steps? • Example 1: Neighbor claims to have jumped a 10 foot wide ditch. (Possible) • Example 2: Neighbor claims to have jumped a 1000 foot wide ditch. (Not possible!) • Evolutionary “stories” attempt to paint evolution as example 1 (simple), when they are really #2.

24. III. EVOLUTION’S “EVIDENCE” FAILS • Simple Intermediate Steps? “The Evolution of the laptop” (by Dr. Maik B. Leev). 2 Billion years ago primitive pizza boxes were scraped clean by monkeys. This constant scraping began the development of keys. 1 Billion years ago, those random key movements had stimulated the growth of electrical connections. 500 Million years ago, these connections in turn triggered a gradual emergence of a primitive LED screen. 100 Million years ago, the LED screen diversified into a High Definition flat panel. 1 Mill. years ago, the 1st crude OS (Microsoft Windows v. 1). Could Time, Chance EVER Achieve This?

25. III. EVOLUTION’S “EVIDENCE” FAILS • Simple Intermediate Steps? Speaking of time & chance in evolution… “Time is in fact the hero of the plot. The time with which we have to deal is of the order of two billion years. What we regard as impossible on the basis of human experience is meaningless here. Given so much time, the ‘impossible’ becomes possible, the possible probable, and the probable virtually certain. One has only to wait: time itself performs the miracles.” (George Wald, Harvard University biochemist and Nobel Laureate, 1954).

EVOLUTION’S “EVIDENCE” FAILS • Inescapable Complexity Cells Are Too Complex To Be By Chance & Time! “With the advent of modern biochemistry we are now able to look at the rock-bottom level of life. We can now make an informed evaluation of whether the putative small steps required to produce large evolutionary changes can ever get small enough. You will see in this book that the canyons separating everyday life forms have their counterparts in the canyons that separate biological systems on a microscopic scale. …unbridgeable chasms occur even at the tiniest level of life.”(Behe p. 15)

Col. 1:16-17 “For in him were all things created, in the heavens and upon the earth, things visible and things invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers; all things have been created through him, and unto him; and he is before all things, and in him all things consist.” Intelligent Design Evident At All Levels!

This is so because that which may be known of God is manifest among them; for God has made it manifest to them…

Romans 1:20 For ever since the creation of the world his invisible nature, even his everlasting power and divinity, has been clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made. So they have no excuse. 21 For although they knew God, yet they did not glorify him as God, nor give him thanks; but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless minds were darkened. 22 While they professed to be wise, they became fools, Even Atheists Admit Immense Complexity!
