Scottish situation • In 2007/08 session there were 1,355 Scottish students went on ERASMUS • Top 3 destinations were France, Germany and Spain with a combined total of 659 • Increase of 19% from 2006/07 session
Possible and Perceived Barriers • Financial • Language • Credits/transferability of courses • Social • Confidence?
ERASMUS • Large number of participating countries • Language courses, particularly in less spoken languages • Grant in addition to regular funding • ECTS system allows credit to be transferred • Most universities participate
IAESTE • Summer work placements • Engineering, science, architecture or agriculture fields • Participation fee of £100 and participants must cover their own travel • Accommodation, expenses and work placement are provided
AIESEC • International work/volunteer placement in 80 different countries • Networking opportunities • Fee of £350 for non-members (£275 for members)
YOUTH In Action • Youth exchanges • Volunteer placements • Youth in the World • Cooperation projects
Leonardo da Vinci • Vocational work placement • Study visits • Arranged through college or university • Opportunities for graduates, emp0loyers and students
Non-traditional participants • Students with a disability • Students who are parents • Students who are over the age of 25 • Engineering/technical disciplines
