The Transfiguration • Jesus took Peter, James, and John • To pray Luke 9:28 • Disciples got sleepy v.32 • Jesus’ face & clothing became bright white Mk 9:3 • Moses and Elijah came and talked with Jesus v.4 • About Jesus’ death Lk 9:31 • Disciples became more alert v.32 • Peter suggested building 3 tabernacles for them v.5 wasn’t thinking

The Transfiguration • Implication of the suggestion is three greatest persons in Israel’s history • A way to honor, commemorate all three • A place for Moses and Elijah to remain • A cloud came Lk. 9:34 • They entered the cloud v.34 • A voice spoke from the cloud, “This is My Beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” Matt. 17:5 • Disciples were afraid of God’s voice v.6

The Transfiguration • Jesus comforted and encouraged disciplesv. 7 • Only Jesus remained with disciples v.8 • Jesus told them not to tell until He had risen from the dead v.9 • They wondered what He meant Mark 9:10 • They obeyed Him Luke 9:36 • They asked about Elijah coming firstMatt. 17:10 • Jesus said Elijah is coming first and must restore all things v.11 Hehas come already v.12 • ConnectsHis suffering with Elijah’s v.12 • Elijah in Mal. 4:5 is John the Baptist Matt. 17:13

Lessons of theTransfiguration • Prayer brings blessings • Jesus was before Moses & Elijah • Moses & Elijah appeared then disappeared • (Law & Prophets temporary) • Only Jesus remains (permanent authority—Hear Him!) • Jesus is greater than anyone else • Transfiguration was a preview of glory after His death Heb. 12:2 • The Holy Spirit is an earnest of our inheritance Eph. 1:13-14, Acts 5:32, 2:38
