ADJECTIVES. DEFINITION. A word used to modify (describe) a noun or a pronoun Usually comes before the noun or pronoun it modifies Tells what kind, which one, or how many. EXAMPLES. Gray skies Far-fetched tale Irish lace Lowest price Next day Last chance Some problems One river.

  4. DEMONSTRATIVE ADJECTIVES • This, that, these, those • Modify nouns or pronouns • Example • Did Jennifer draw this picture? (adjective) • Did Jennifer draw this? (pronoun)

  5. NOUN OR ADJECTIVE? • Many words that can stand alone as nouns can also be used as adjectives modifying nouns or pronouns • Example • Cheese  cheese sandwich • Snow  snow sculpture • Weather  weather report

  6. ARTICLES • A, an, the • Definite article (the) • Refers to someone or something in particular • Example • The girl won • The elephant escaped. • Indefinite articles (a, an) • Refer to any member of a general group • Example • A girl won. • An elephant escaped.
