  3. Target • Students with at least 50 points on the ALCPT • Military or civilians working for the Bulgarian Armed Forces • Personnel who want to maintain and reinforce their acquired knowledge of English but are not able to attend regular courses

  4. Course Schedule • 24 weeks • 15 hours per week • 10 hours online individual and collaborative group work • 5 hours offline reading and writing • Progress test/written assignment • Face-to-face periods: weeks 1, 12 and 24 • Deadlines • Weekly • Log on at any point during the week

  5. Content • Basic grammar points and vocabulary areas • General military topics since the main audience is supposed to be military personnel

  6. Objectives • Grammar topics • Modal verbs • Conditional sentences • Tenses: Present and Past Perfect – Simple and Progressive, Past Progressive, Future forms • Indirect speech • Passive voice • Degrees of comparison of adverbs • Prepositions of time and place • Word formation

  7. Vocabulary areas • Sports • Materials • Shopping • Traveling • Health and keeping fit • Accidents and disasters • Terrain • Applying for a job • Recruiting and basic training • Military ranks • Military customs and courtesies • Combat readiness • Weapons and chemical substances

Course structure • Online course based on both individual and group tasks • 1 unit per week • Each unit includes • Grammar focus and exercises • Vocabulary focus: reading and listening texts • Function: practical speaking and writing tasks • Optional activities: reading, listening and reference materials • Homework writing tasks • Every second week – progress test on grammar and vocabulary • Final Test

  9. Unit structure • Topics – reading texts and comprehension exercises • Grammar – explanations and exercises • Function – communicative models and practical tasks • Listening texts on the unit topics

  10. Current course • Level II: ALC books 13-24 • Participants: 7 students and 3 teachers • Duration: 17 April – 22 December
