  2. Called to Unity

  3. The most important thing God wants us to hear Hisultimate desire for you and me as children of God, is for us experience, encounter, understand, and walk in an intimate, whole, trustworthy, unified relationship with Himself.

  4. Order of priorities God’s List 1. God 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. Everything else… Man’s List • God • Spouse • Kids • Friends • Job • Hobbies

  5. The chief end of man, is to glorify god, and enjoy him forever.

  6. John 17:3 amp Jesus says, “Now this is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true [supreme and sovereign] God, and [in the same manner know] Jesus as the Christ whom You have sent.”

  7. John 17:3 amp deeper • “To know” [NOT an intellectual knowing of God and Jesus] • “To know”means [intimately experience and encounter] • Deeper meaning: Jesus says, “Now this is eternal life: that they may [intimately experience and encounter] You, the only true (supreme and sovereign) God, and in the same manner [intimately experience and encounter] Jesus as the Christ whom You have sent.”

  8. You are called to unity • The word unity means ONENESS. • You and I are called to unity and oneness with the Lord first, and everything else 10th.

  9. John 17 – the oneness chapter • 6 “I have revealed you[a] to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. 7 Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. 8 For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. 9 I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. 10 All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them. 11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of[b] your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.

  10. John 17 – the oneness chapter • 20 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word,21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.

  11. Unity or oneness looks like • Receiving the gift of Oneness that has already been achieved for you. Ge. 1:26. • Embracing it. Embrace that you are One with Him right now. • Seek His face until you find it. • Taking time to hear voice. • Spending time with Him.

  12. Unity or oneness within the body of christ • 1 Corinthians 1:10 says, “10 I appeal to you, brothers,[a] by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.” • Colossians 3:13-14 says, “13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” • Psalm 133:1says, “Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!”

  13. 3 things that threaten unity with the lord 1. Fear, worry, selfishness, unbelief (2 Timothy 1:7) 2. Unforgiveness (Matthew 6:17) 3. Failure to understand who we are in Christ (Ephesians 2:10; 2 Corinthians 5:21)

  14. 3 things that threaten unity with each other • 1. Difficult adjustments taking place in our life (James 4:7) • 2. Failure to anticipate selfishness (Psalm 139:24; 1 Corinthians 2:16; John 14:27) • 3. Failure to work through difficult situations (Philippians 2:1-4)
