6. www.sentrain.net Understanding section • The objectives of this section are to: • Understand the causes of hearing loss and how this is assessed • Distinguish fact from fiction in relation to the condition • Raise awareness of the range of difficulties children with this need may experience • To raise awareness of the impact of these difficulties on curriculum access and social inclusion

7. www.sentrain.net Assessment section • The objectives of this section are to: • Gain knowledge of the rationale behind the assessment of skills in an educational context • Show how informal assessment can be carried out in the classroom • Develop a profile of a learner's strengths and needs in relation to their effective functioning in the classroom • Write three goals based on the assessments tools included for the young person they are supporting

9. www.sentrain.net Intervention section • The objectives of this section are to: • Identify a range of support options • Look at interventions to support a hearing impaired student • Look at how to monitor and adapt learning environments to meet the needs of hearing impaired student

10. www.sentrain.net Intervention setting • Example interventions: • Involve M. fully with all aspects of hearing aid management & make this as fun as possible e.g. retubing ear moulds, keeping a chart of charging radio system etc. • arrange a visit for M. to meet another child of similar age with hearing aids, who is a positive hearing aid user • Introduce reading books showing good models of hearing aid use

11. www.sentrain.net Case studies • To provide examples of a range of learners illustrating: • assessed needs of the individual • interventions which have been put in place • learner’s response to the interventions and progress made

12. www.sentrain.net Course Forums Choose one student and reflect on what you have learned as a result of watching these videos. Listening to the support worker who was based with a child in the nursery each morning, was a reminder of how even the most basic of activities that are integral to an early years day, such as nursery rhymes,  will be a challenge for E. She also inspired the thinking through of how to introduce some basic signing in whole-class activities so that the other children develop understanding of E's needs and celebrate his 'culture'. • Tutors and students can communicate through online discussions • You will introduce yourselves on the Forums today

13. www.sentrain.net Accreditation • To pass the course you need to: • Read all the course content • Complete 2 quizzes • Take part a minimum number of forum discussions • Write 3 goals • Write 3 interventions • Attend face to face sessions as arranged by your tutor • Complete the post course evaluation • 90 days after you have finished the course (and passed) complete the goal attainment scaling
