www.sentrain.net Understanding section • The objectives of this section are to: • Be able to recognise and describe the main features of motor learning difficulties • Understand definitions of dyspraxia and developmental coordination disorder • Experience what it may feel like to have these difficulties • Understand how the condition might affect children
www.sentrain.net Assessment section • The objectives of this section are to: • Introduce the main types and purposes of assessment • Describe the role of professionals in assessment • Describe the normal process of motor skills development • Outline the difficulties which may arise • Provide a sample assessment profile and record form

www.sentrain.net Intervention section • The objectives of this section are to: • Describe the process of motor skill acquisition • Introduce a range of techniques for teaching motor skills • Introduce a variety of specific interventions • Raise awareness of factors which may need to be taken into account in planning an intervention
www.sentrain.net Intervention setting • Example interventions: • Get a selection of pencil grips for child A to try • To use a highlighter pen along the line to show where the small letters should rest • Do Hand and finger warm-up sessions prior to a writing task, & speak to teacher to see if this could be a whole class activity • Try move 'n' sit cushion • Practice good sitting position, and use a posture card as a reminder
www.sentrain.net Case studies • To provide examples of a range of learners illustrating: • assessed needs of the individual • interventions which have been put in place • learner’s response to the interventions and progress made
www.sentrain.net Course Forums Star task-what does it feel like? Try this activity yourself. Share with the group the impact this had on your stress levels, you muscles, your attention, and your self esteem. I had a similar reaction to the lady in the video. I was rather ashamed of my effort-it was rubbish! Part of me wanted to give up, another part of me wanted to start again. I think I felt I could get better if I had the motivation and energy to keep trying, or if someone encouraged me to have another go. • Tutors and students can communicate through online discussions • You will introduce yourselves on the Forums today
www.sentrain.net Accreditation • To pass the course you need to: • Read all the course content • Complete 2 quizzes • Take part a minimum number of forum discussions • Write 3 goals • Write 3 interventions • Attend face to face sessions as arranged by your tutor • Complete the post course evaluation • 90 days after you have finished the course (and passed) complete the goal attainment scaling
