INSPECTOR TRAINING ENTRY LEVEL • Entry level inspectors are required to complete 23 weeks of training at the Mine Health and Safety Academy • The training is divided into six modules with “on the job” field training incorporated between the Academy modules • Modules consist of training in the following areas:

  3. INSPECTOR TRAINING ENTRY LEVEL • Introduction to MSHA • Note taking and citation and order writing • Root cause analysis • Inspection procedures • Laptop computers and applications • Diversity training • Effective writing • Law, Regulation and Policy

  4. INSPECTOR TRAINING ENTRY LEVEL • Mine act • Professionalism • Noise and Respirable Dust • Part 48 training • Conference Presentation • Safety Talks • Communication • Special Investigations

  5. INSPECTOR TRAINING ENTRY LEVEL • Combustible materials and rockdusting • Interviewing techniques • Mine electricity • Ground control • Fire protection • Electrical permissibility • Surface Inspection

  6. INSPECTOR TRAINING ENTRY LEVEL • Longwalls • Ventilation • Gas detecting devices • Underground haulage • Roof Control • Slope and shaft sinking • Hoisting

  7. INSPECTOR TRAINING ENTRY LEVEL • Drilling and Blasting • Surface Haulage • Mine Wide Monitoring • Mine Rescue • Accident Investigation • Impoundments • Conducting Safety Talks

  8. INSPECTOR TRAINING JOURNEYMAN • All journeyman inspectors are required to attend one week of training per year or two weeks every other year. • Training includes: • Fatality Review • Hoisting and Rigging • Electrical Enforcement • Electrical Lab and Permissibility

  9. INSPECTOR TRAINING JOURNEYMAN • Fire Protection • Professionalism • Recent Decisions and S&S • Computer Issues • Surface Powered Haulage • Explosives and Blasting ATF • Remote Control Mining Issues

  10. INSPECTOR TRAINING JOURNEYMAN • Cable Bolts and Trusses and Roof Control Issues • Shaft and Slope Sinking Inspection

  11. INSPECTOR TRAINING SPECIALISTS • In addition to the required journeyman training specialists receive additional annual training in their area of expertise • Electrical specialists attend annual training to maintain their electrical certification • Ventilation, Roof Control, Impoundment, Accident Investigation and Special Investigators receive one to two weeks additional training annually
