ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY We acknowledge and respect the traditional custodians whose ancestral lands we are meeting upon today. We acknowledge the deep feelings of attachment and relationship of Aboriginal peoples to country. We also pay respects to the cultural authority of Aboriginal people visiting from other areas of South Australia or Australia present here.
FEATURES – PERMANENT TEACHERS Permanent teachers in temporary positions appointed to ongoing positions in schools Generally no teachers will remain in temporary (PAT) positions for more than 12 months Teachers on extended leave will hold right of return to their school 3
FEATURES – PERMANENT TEACHERS (continued) Existing permanent teachers, providing not in first year of permanency, are eligible to apply for other teaching positions (Note: Country PATS able to apply only for country positions in their first year) Teachers in tenured leadership positions eligible to apply for permanent teaching positions 4
FEATURES – PERMANENT TEACHERS (continued) A voluntary transfer process for teachers who meet eligibility criteria Eligible teachers from category 1 and 2 schools, who apply for advertised teaching positions are required to be shortlisted and have at least one referee contacted 5
FEATURES – PERMANENT COUNTRY TEACHERS Country guarantees – eligible country teachers guaranteed right of return to the metropolitan area Voluntary transfer option for country teachers who wish to relocate to a different country region or metro location 6
FEATURES – EMPLOYABLE TEACHERS Opportunities for new graduates, early career teachers and long-term contract teachers to gain permanent employment with DECD Process for conversion to permanency for eligible temporary teachers Temporary (contract) positions of up to 2 years 7
FEATURES – VACANCY PROCESS PAT Teachers are placed into ongoing positions where possible through a centrally managed process Conversion to permanency in all category 1 and 2 schools, zone 3, 4 and 5 country schools and agreed specialist subject areas (where appropriate) All remaining permanent (ongoing) vacancies declared by schools in the first round will be released for advertisement Positions released for advertisement will be open to all teachers, both permanent and temporary (contract), who will be considered equally in the selection process 8

ADVERTISED TEACHING POSITIONS Advertising allows schools the greatest opportunity to select their own staff whilst protecting the industrial rights and existing guarantees of permanent employees The Local Selection Panel comprises the Principal (or delegate) as Chairperson and a representative elected by AEU members at the school

PERMANENT TEACHER REGISTER (PTR) Teachers requiring placement NEED to be included in the PTR, ie. Teachers who have been in PAT/TPT positions in 2014 are returning from extended leave are completing tenure leadership or seconded positions Some teachers requesting an alternative placement MAY OPT into the PTR, ie. Eligible teachers who are: exercising a guarantee (country to metro or country to country) from Cat 1, 2 or Country Zones 1-5 and seeking metro placement for preferred sites only seeking alternative placement through a transfer

COMPLETING A TENURED LEADERSHIP POSITION You will be appointed to a position within 45 km of where you commuted daily to the position OR If in the country and your position immediately prior was in the metropolitan area, then you may choose to be placed in the extended metropolitan area or within 45km of where you commuted daily to the leadership position
SPECIAL PLACEMENT AGREEMENT Teachers may apply for consideration of special circumstances at any time Teachers must complete a Special Placement Request (VL729) form and forward to Senior HR Consultants Required on an annual basis Teachers must include relevant documents to support their request (eg medical) In exceptional circumstances teachers may be granted a Special Placement Agreement for inclusion in the PTR
