  2. Bellringer #1: I Love the 2000s • Generations are often characterized by the music, clothes, literature, and technology that are popular during that time period. How do you think your generation will be characterized?

  3. Bellringer #2: (Ch. 1) Liar, Liar • What do you think Ponyboy means when he says, "I lie to myself all the time"?  Do you ever lie to yourself?  Why?

  4. Bellringer #3: (Ch. 4)  Dear Abby • What would your advice be to Johnny and Ponyboy if they'd come to you for help instead of Dally?  Explain.

  5. Bellringer #4: (Ch. 6) The Fugitive • If you were in Ponyboy’s and Johnny’s shoes, would you want to continue running, or would you turn yourself in? Why? What do you think would be the consequences of your decision?

  6. Bellringer #5: Ready to Rumble • Should Ponyboy go to the final rumble? Why or why not? What would you have done if you were in his shoes?

  7. Bellringer #6: We are Family • Which is more important to you: your family that consists of your relatives, or the “family” you make with your friends? Or are these groups both important in different ways? Explain your answer

  8. Bellringer #7: Faves • What has been your favorite part of the book? Maybe it was a particular scene or a particular character. Why was this your favorite?
