What is LinkedIn • LinkedIn is a business oriented social networking website • mainly used for professional networking • As of July 2007 • more than 12 million registered users • 150 industries • more than 400 economic regions (as classified by the service). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LinkedIn
What is LinkedIn • The main purpose is to allow registered users to maintain a list of contact of people they know and trust in business • The people in the list are called Connections • Users can invite anyone (whether a LinkedIn user or not) to become a connection
Your Profile • Provide information about you • Professional Headline (Title) • Location (City) • Current Position(s) • Past Positions • Education • Industry • Professional Goals • Expertise ETC…
Your Network • A contact network is built up of • 1st degree connections • direct connections, people you know • 2nd degree connections • connections’ of connections, people your contacts know • 3rd degree connections • connections’ of connections’ of connections • This can be used, for example, to gain an introduction to some-one you wish to know through a mutual, trusted contact
