REFLECTIONS Metal & Glass
Metal • Look at the metal object on the table….. • Reflections of what surrounds the object • Game “Find the object in the picture” • Absorbs little light • Light bounces back • “Contrasty” • Wood, foam, fabric soft and diffused • Reflection you see is “curved” / distorted

When you start to draw a metal object….. • 1. Draw the shape of the object itself / outline • 2. Establish the light source • 3. Determine the lightest and darkest area (value scale) use vine, willow, condensed, white and conte. • 4. Play find the picture
Metal • Edges of reflections are sharp • Flares • Flare – says metal Practice first, should look effortless Create flares quickly with a kneaded eraser.
Glass • Look at the glass object on the table……. • See through – transparent, you have to draw what’s behind it. • Distort shapes behind it • See reflections • Glass has an inside and an outside • Highlights • Cast shadows • Reflections • If the glass has designs cut into it the objects reflected will be even more distorted
Colored Glass • Look at the colored glass object on the table…. • Glass and metal renderings look better from far away – they come together • Local Color – green darker than clear • Like seeing through sunglasses
Liquid • Fill your glass object with water……. • Clear liquid • May distort • Magnify • Reflect light differently • Shift position • Opaque • Can’t see through it • Like a solid object
