APA Style Tips. General. EVERYTHING in an APA style paper is double spaced from beginning to end—no exceptions Only third person is allowed—no first or second person. Therefore, one must refer to him or herself as “the author” rather than “I” and the reader is never referred to as “you”.

General • Every page includes a heading (the title of the paper in all capital letters) and page number—including title page, abstract and reference page • All papers must include: • Title page • Abstract • Body (see number of required pages) • Reference page
Title Page • Heading in upper left hand corner and page number in upper right hand corner • “Runninghead:” followed by the heading used throughout the paper should at the left hand side of the page • Full title of the paper is centered just above the vertical center of the page • Name of author and school affiliation is centered just below the vertical center of the page
Abstract • The word “Abstract” is centered on the first line of the page • The abstract is a 250 words or less summary of the major points of the paper
Body • Full title of the paper is centered on the first line of the page • Indent paragraphs and include embedded citations.
Reference Page • “References” is centered on the first line of the page • Include ONLY those references which were cited in the paper • Follow format outlined on library handout
