  3. Aksum • A kingdom that rose to power in the fourth century A.D. in modern day Ethiopia and Eritrea • Located in the Horn of Africa • Arabs built trading posts and colonies here

  4. Horn of Africa • The horn shaped area in Eastern Africa in which Aksum was located

  5. Adulis • The main trading port of Aksum • On the Red Sea • Items traded were salt, ivory, cloth, brass, iron, gold, glass, olive oil, animals, and wine

  6. Ezana • A powerful king of Aksum (A.D. 325) who helped the kingdom achieve greatness • Conquered Kush and burned Meroe to the ground. • Was a king since he was a baby

  7. Terrace • A leveled off area of land • This helped farmers because it was easy to plant crops
