  2. Calculated - ADJ • Deliberately planned risk • Baseball managers sometimes take calculated risks, such as calling for a double-steal.

  3. Candor – Noun (Quality) • Frankness; open honesty • It’s unrealistic to expect people to speak with candor at all times.

  4. Capricious - ADJ • Unpredictable; fickle • My cat is a capricious eater; every day she wants something different to eat.

  5. Censure – Noun or Verb • Blame; criticize • The U.S. Senate can vote to censure members whose conduct is considered improper.

  6. Charlatan – Noun (Person) • A quack; pretender to knowledge • The history of medicine is filled with charlatans who promised cures for incurable illnesses.

  7. Coalesce - Verb • Combine; fuse • To work together successfully, military units must coalesce to become a group of like-minded individuals.

  8. Colloquial - ADJ • Pertaining to conversational or common speech • Colloquial words and expressions should not be used in formal English.

  9. Compile - Verb • Assemble; gather; accumulate • After every season, the batting average and other statistics for every player in Major League Baseball are compiled.

  10. Complacency – Noun (Quality) • Self-satisfaction; smugness • Complacency among employees is a problem sometimes faced by managers of successful companies.

  11. Compliance – Noun (Idea) • Readiness to yield; conformity • Unless you’d like to spend some time in jail, compliance with the regulations of the Internal Revenue Service is advisable.

  12. Composure – Noun (Idea) • Mental calmness • A platoon leader must have composure under enemy fire so he can make correct decisions.

  13. Comprehensive - ADJ • Thorough; inclusive • A good dictionary must have a comprehensive list of the words used in a language.
