ISO SCIT www.iso.ch/scit • ScopeThe purpose of the SCIT is to manage coordination activities by sharing information and not to assign or manage specific imaging standards. The intend is to identify new work as early as possible and to optimize the use of resources for the development of standards in image technology. In this context, imaging technology is defined as any system or process that is used for the formation, acquisition, storage, retrieval, rendering (display, printing, etc) and reproduction of any combination of pictoral, textual or graphic material.
ISO SCIT www.iso.ch/scit • MembershipThe membership of the SCIT is open to all ISO TCs (including ISO / IEC JTC1) and SCs involved in image technology and appropriate groups within any recognized international standardizing body (CIE, ITU, IEC etc.)Membership is also offered to any broadly based group developing specifications or using standards for image technology, contingent upon approval by the membership of the SCIT. For-profit organizations, companies or individuals may only participate as observers.
ISO SCIT www.iso.ch/scit • Status of existing liaisons • The SCIT will complement and not replace existing technical liaisons and cooperative agreements.
ISO SCIT www.iso.ch/scit • Main Goal • Speeding up the process of standardization by sharing information about standards being worked on in an early stageand by doing so prepare for better and earlier international acceptance.
ISO SCIT www.iso.ch/scit • ISO SCIT Resolutions • 2002-2Creation and maintenance of Image Technology DatabaseSCIT insctructs ist secretariat to request ist members for detailed information (ISO Form 4 or equivalent) regarding all their New Work Items of interest to SCIT, including non officially registered intended projects, in order to build up an Image Technology database.
ISO SCIT www.iso.ch/scit • ISO SCIT Resolutions • 2002-3Joint Activities between ISO / TC 42 and IEC / TC 100In response to concerns raised by TC 42, SCIT wishes to express strong support for TC 42, in their desire to either seek resolution of the current lack of appropriate inclusion of TC 42 contributions to the joint work between ISO and IEC, or the reconsideration of JTAB resolutions 2/2000 and 3/2000 to allow TC 42, and other appropriate ISO TCs, to proceed with the development of standards for color applications within their respective technical areas.SCIT also wishes to draw to the attention of the TMB to the belief that the lack of a timely resolution of the TC 42 concerns will result in the transfere of this work to outside consortia and ist loss to the International Standards program.
ISO SCIT www.iso.ch/scit • ISO SCIT Resolutions • 2002-4Request for information on existing Test ChartsSCIT instructs ist secretariat to request ist members to provide information on existing standardized test charts in their area. The collected information will be forwarded to the JTC 1 / SC 28 representative, Mr Thomas Schmelzer
ISO SCIT www.iso.ch/scit • Standards in the view of consumersFor a consumer a reference to a standard is a confirmation that the product he is going to buy is safe, compatible etc
ISO SCIT www.iso.ch/scit • Standards are used in marketing to make a product look safe and compatible
ISO SCIT www.iso.ch/scit • Standards are used in marketing to make a product look safe and compatiblethis also generates misuse such as referencing standards that the products do not fulfill orreferencing to standards that do not existthis is an important issue we need to find a way how to react offically to obvious misuse of standards
