(1 Kings 17) • Elisha healed a Syrian general. (2 Kings 5) • Implication: If not received (believed) by Israel, Jesus would also go to the Gentiles. • Response: anger – unbelief – rejection – attack

  23. 46 Jesus’ Move to Capernaum • Located on the north shore of the Sea of Galilee 20 miles from Nazareth, Capernaum was the center of the Galilean fishing industry. • Capernaum was the home of Peter and Andrew (originally from Bethsaida), and John and James, sons of Zebedee. • A Roman garrison was stationed at Capernaum. • Capernaum became the base for Jesus’ Galilean ministry. • Jesus taught and healed in the Capernaum synagogue on the Sabbath without opposition. • The location of Capernaum provided maximum contact with the people of Galilee and beyond, including those traveling between Egypt and Mesopotamia on a road that passed near the town.
