Sentence Writing Definition Sometimes, to avoid confusion or misunderstanding, we have to define a term, a word, or a concept which is unfamiliar to most readers or open to various interpretations. To give a definition is to illustrate the nature or quality of something, or to explain the meaning of some concepts. In general, there are three basic ways to define a word or term: to give a synonym, to use a sentence or to write a paragraph if the definition is a multi-dimentional one. New Practical English 3
