The tip of the iceberg • 2013 – a nationally recognised athletics coach is facing 16 charges of sexual abuse against a young victim and being investigated for historic crimes. • 2011 - Nelson table tennis coach charged with two historical sexual offences. - one charge of unlawful sexual connection in and around 1997 or 1998 and one charge of indecent assault on a male in or around 1987. • 2010 – sports trainer convicted of raping and sexually violating a 16-year-old girl • 2008 - An award-winning sports coach, widely respected for his work with underprivileged and troubled youth, has been charged with sexually abusing two girls in his care • 2008- A 75 year old man who was coaching schoolboy softball and rugby league at the Metro Softball Club and the Mt Albert Rugby League Junior Club in Auckland throughout the 1970s and 1980s was charged with 26 counts of indecent acts against children. • 2006 - A former music teacher and sports coach was sentenced in the New Plymouth District Court yesterday after admitting six sexual assault charges against three young boys • 2004- A 44-year-old was sentenced in the Auckland District Court to six years' jail after pleading guilty to one charge of indecently assaulting a girl and eight indecent assaults on three boys, aged 12, 13 and 14, who were junior golfers at a sports club. • 2001 - Former magistrate found guilty on 9 child sex abuse charges of junior lifesavers (nippers) aged 7-13. The abuse occurred when the accused was a state and club junior lifesaving coach. • 2001 - Allegations made by a retired professional female jockey that she was sexually assaulted and harassed for 11 years by males within the horse racing industry are currently being investigated. • 2001 - Olympic kayaker recounts her sexual abuse by her swimming coach in the late 1980s. • 2000 - Female jockey takes court action against 6 young men in the horse racing industry for sexual assault and harassment. • 2000 - Junior soccer coach jailed for 11 years after pleading guilty to 104 paedophile offences against four of his young players (aged between 10 and 12). • 2000 - Hockey coach pleaded guilty to allegations of indecent assault on a player under his care.
