'Witch Doctor' Has Cure for Kyrgyzstan: Electing Him President; After the Revolt in Capital, Politics Is a Little Ragged; His Remedy for Addicts Jenishbek Nazaraliev is a doctor and therapist in Kyrgyzstan. His current ambition is to run for the open presidency of the country. His treatments are unorthodox but he has many connections in the country. His goal was decided after the original president resigned and the two leading candidates began arguing. Nazaraliev is a popular figure in the country and owns two restaurants as well as runs his clinic for alcoholics and drug addicts. He has grown popular due partially to the fact that in addition to the practices of Western medicine, he also incorporates ideals from the eastern beliefs of his country. One video tape from his clinic shows a stress therapy session inspired by tribal healers. Another method offered by the doctor is to speak to a rock. After telling it his problems, the patient throws away the rock in a symbolic act of throwing away his problems. The doctor claims an 80% success rate and has patients from all over the world. Last month’s uprising against the country’s president scared some of the clinic’s patients and employees to the point that they considered fleeing the country but they have since returned and began treatment again. His treatments cost around $5000.
