Bridges Grant Guilford’s Bridges Program is made possible through a three-year grant from the Maryland Department of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Center Program • No Child Left Behind Dollars • Funding goes to MDSDE • HCPSS Applies for the 21st CCLC grant • Guilford is one of 17 HCPSS schools with Bridges program--looks different at each site.
Who Are GES Bridges Students? Last School Year 2nd - 5th Graders 318 students eligible 85 students (Title I Priority List) 27% of the student body • 59% male, 41% female • 48% African American • 20% Hispanic • 15% White • 14% Declined to Choose • 58% FARMS • 9% Special Education • 15% ELL

Bridges to the Daily ClassroomPercentage of all BRIDGES students whose classroom behavior improved, declined, did not change, or did not need to improve in the 2008-09 school year.
Before & After School ProgramDaily ScheduleTuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays • Tutoring 8:00-9:00 a.m. • Breakfast 9:00 a.m. • School Day 9:10 a.m. - 3:50 p.m. • HW/Recreation 4:00-5:30 p.m
Before School Tutoring • By Invitation Only (3rd-5th Graders) • 8:00-9:00 a.m. • Bus Transportation Provided • Math/Reading Instruction Daily • Do The Math • FASTT Math (Computer Based) • Vocabulary • Breakfast Provided
After School Program • Open to All Students • 125 students (about 70 Bridges students) • Bridges Rate is $40 v. $180 for Non-Bridges • No student denied participation for financial reasons • 4:00-5:30 p.m. • 45 minutes of Homework • 45 minutes of Recreation • Snack Provided • Bus Transportation Home

Help Wanted • Morning Tutoring 1-2 Spots Open • Flexible on Grade • Both Math/Vocabulary each day • Must work all three days • Afternoon HW/Recreation Help • Flexible on Grade for HW help • Recreation is space dependent • Can pick day(s) of the week
Ways you can help • Help expedite Bridges paperwork • Assign homework; reinforce use of agenda books--HW assignments should be posted in classroom. • Invite me to KidTalk when appropriate. • Complete any necessary surveys--typically only one at year end.
