Objectives • Define Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) • Discover what MPI is doing to inspire, inform, activate, measure and celebrate around CSR • Share next practices with chapters that have already implemented CSR into their communities • Brainstorm tools and ideas to help you bring CSR to life in your chapter

  4. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a concept whereby organizations consider the long-term interests of the communities in which they operate and take responsibility for the impact of their actions on employees, customers/members, the community and the environment.

  5. CSR activities are often referred to as being in three different but connected realms: People Planet Profit This is known as the “triple bottom line”

  6. Why CSR is Good for Business • Ethics: It is the right thing to do • Brand Enhancement: Better brand reputation • Public Expectations: The public has higher expectations of the responsibilities of business to create social benefits • The War for Talent: more attractive to existing and new employees • Risk Reduction: Risk management through transparency of activities • Value: The creation of value and competitive advantage • Sustainability: Environmental measures can often increase business sustainability and cut costs

  7. MPI CSR Task Force Vision Unite the MPI community in a shared vision and commitment to a sustainable, just and profitable future.

What is MPI doing? • We are actively seeking to achieve five things: • Inspire people to act • Inform our communities how to accomplish their goals • Activate our internal operations and our communities • Measure our progress and seek for continual improvement • Celebrate and report our successes

What is MPI doing? • Specific things we have done/are doing/will be doing: • Signed the UN Global Compact • Created a full-time Director of CSR to activate our internal and external communities • Offered CSR tracks at PEC and will continue to offer them at future conferences • Creation of a webcast series to inspire people around CSR • Creation of a webinar series to inform people how to activate their goals • Measured our environmental impact at our events & reported it to the community
