How: Washington signed the Ordinance into law with the support of Congress Why: creation of the Northwest Territory in order to raise money selling land.

Why: to eliminate the French presence in America, and for Napoleon to pay for the war with Britain and in Haiti

How: U.S. and Great Britain signed the Oregon Treaty of 1846 Why: to end the territorial dispute and settle from Atlantic to Pacific
