MeSH • Over 25,000 main headings • Over 160,000 chemicals • With the Office of Rare Diseases of NIH • Adding the terms naming some 7,000 rare diseases, not all will be main headings • Some are already in MeSH • Expected to take over a year to accomplish • Requests for changes or additions are welcomed

RxNormhttp://www.nlm.nih.gov/research/umls/rxnorm/ • Vocabulary of standardized names for clinical drugs • Increasingly being used as a national standard for communicating about drugs • Starting in October: • Weekly update file of RxNorm issued every Wednesday • Full monthly releases of RxNorm issued the first Monday or the first following workday of each month

MyMedicationListhttp://mml.nlm.nih.gov • An application for patients and families to use to develop and maintain their personal medication list on their own computers or memory sticks • Testing with individuals recruited in Queens, NY to learn what is effective and what requires more development • Application is downloaded from the library when making or updating a list so latest list is used • Uses RxNorm, and stores the information in a standard format developed by HL7, an international standards development organization in medical informatics

10. DailyMedhttp://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/ • Links information provided by the FDA (product labels) with PubMed, Clinical Trials, MedlinePlus, and other sources of information • Over 4,300 labels available

Drug Information Portalhttp://druginfo.nlm.nih.gov • New version released in October • Covers over 16,000 drugs • Update includes: • Direct searching of drug categories, derived from the MeSH Pharmacological Action field • Name and category suggestions, to eliminate common spelling errors • Phrase parser to assist users in finding drug names within phrases • Addition of the MeSH notes, when available, to spell checker results to make selection of a possible answer easier • Searches retrieving multiple results now sorted by frequency of citation in PubMed, from highest to lowest; shows the most commonly used drugs first
