Se considera uno de los maestros más importantes de la arquitectura moderna, junto con el suizo-francés Le Corbusier y el estadounidense Frank Lloyd Wright. Su huella ha sido especialmente profunda en Estados Unidos y la mayoría de los rascacielos construidos por todo el mundo sigue parcial o totalmente sus planteamientos compositivos.
