Problem and Objective Statements Problem Statement Archer Beauty is a local beauty store that needs improvement on their current inventory and floor layout system. Employees are currently checking inventory by hand and product placements in the store have customers constantly asking for product location. The storage room is also unorganized without shelving systems. Objective Statement The purpose of this project is to 1) create a web enabled inventory management database, 2) redesign the storage unit, 3)create aisle signs for product location, 4)reorganize the product layout, and 5)redesign floor area to better utilize space. These goals will help reduce labor hours on checking inventory, minimize the reorder time, and create better flow to meet customers’ needs.

Shelf Specifications • Research on shelves on the web( websites below) -http://www.chromewireshelfing.com/ - http://www.equipmentandsupply.com/stak-n-store.htm -http://www.lozier.com/mod1.htm • Shelving arrangements for synthetic hair, human hair, and shoes & misc. • Box sizes – Synthetic boxes - l*w*h= 2’4”x1’1”*x 8.5” -Human Hair boxes - l*w*h=2’2” x 1’5” x 1’1” • Floor layout shelf dimensions - 8’x 3’ x 4’6” ( currently 40 of these shelves)
Storage Room • Chrome shelving • Holds 800 lbs/shelf • 18” x 60” x 63” • Bins to replace boxes • 17 1/2” x 10 7/8” x 12 ½” • Stacked in groups of two and side-by-side in groups of 5
Shoes and Misc. • 4- way Displayer • Place one sample shoe on display and store rest on shelves • 60” height
Floor Area • Shelves of higher height • Same amount as current (40) • Extra height eliminates access inventory on floor • 72” H x 36” D
Structured Estimating • 1) How many times a week do they count inventory? - Answ: 2-3 times a week • 2) How long does it take during store hours? - Answ: 4 hours/shift, 8-12 hrs/wk. • 3) How many shipments come in each week? -Answ: Mon- Fri, UPS • 4) What is the time between reorder points? - Answ: 5 days • 5) How long does it take to stock during busy and non-busy hours? - Answ: 6 hours. • 6) How many customers come in average in a day? - Answ: 250. • 7) How many times a customer asks for product location in a day? - Answ: 50. That is 20% of customers.

SWOT Analysis • STRENGTHS - Carries more variety of brand products than other stores in Gainesville - Friendly staff along with a professional and positive attitude - Family environment - Good teamwork among employees - Strong focus on customers needs • WEAKNESSES - Excess inventory on floor and storage room - No aisle signs for the products - Counting inventory by hand - No shelving system in storage room • OPPORTUNITIES - Improving floor layout by reorganizing products - Reduce labor on counting inventory - Dispatch returning/damaged items quicker, taking up space - Establishing a quicker reorder time - Shelving system in the back storage room - Expand wig section and find more space for cosmetics and showcases • THREATS - No foreseeable threats as of now.
