  2. Objectives • Highlight purposes and opportunities of the waste statistics • Enhance quality and international harmonization • Identify the best available production methods • Prepare for increased international cooperation

  3. Content • Purpose of the waste statistics (adopted and ”ideally”) • Main present and potential users and user needs • Introduction to a set of estimation methods: • sample surveys • municipal reporting • factor methods • use of customer registers • MFA-approach • use of sorting analyses • Evaluate the methods by having regard to goal orientation, quality, harmonization and costs • Identify measures for improvement and international cooperation

  4. Training methods • Lectures • Plenum discussions • Group discussions

  5. Expected outcome • Introduction to different production methods • Understanding of how the different methods relates to the adopted and ”ideal” purposes of the waste statistics • Understanding of how different estimation methods may disturb international harmonization • Proposals for improvements and international cooperation • The outcome depends of everyones participation

  6. Recommended experience and preparation • Experience in producing waste statistics • Knowledge of own country’s waste statistics • Familiar to EU’s waste statistics and waste statistics legislation • Prepare examples of • successful methods • challenging or ”impossible” issues • definition and classification problems • etc.

  7. Practical information • 13. – 15. of May, 2009 – Statistics Norway, Oslo • Application form to: norway.estp.contact@ssb.no • Deadline for application: 13. March – extended until 20. March • 13 participants already registrated • Costs: • The training course is free of charge • Travel and daily allowances are to be paid for by the participant’s home organisation • Target group: Staff from National Statistical Institutes and other Competent National Authorities (CNA) involved in the production of official waste statistics
