Discussion Overview Why partner? How do we partner? What is Dual Enrollment ? What do we mean by Bachelor Completion?
2011-2012 Outreach to Community and Technical Colleges • Deans – Meetings with MnSCU two-year institutions • Identifying partnership opportunities • Need for on-site or program delivery needs in local areas • Programs that offer career pathways from certificates, AA’s and AAS degrees.
Why Partnership Matters • Increase in Transfer Students • Large enrollment gains at Minnesota two-year institutions – 16,858 in 2000 to 32,213 in 2010 • More undergraduates have enrolled at two-year institutions, a 51 percent increase, than at four-year institutions with an 8 percent increase. Two-year institutions saw increases in all age categories, but especially large increases in the 20 to 24 year age group, 58 percent increase; 25 to 34 year age group, 117 percent increase; and the 35 and older year age group, 52 percent increase. http://www.ohe.state.mn.us/mPg.cfm?pageID=750 • Changes in Concurrent Enrollment – Irondale High School and Anoka Ramsey MN Transfer and AA • Streamlined Service for Students from Start to Finish • Shared Vision Related to Program Quality • Shared Resources • Clear Career Pathways
Partnership Examples • University Center Rochester – RCTC, Winona State (12 2+2 programs) and St. Mary’s • North Hennepin Community College – St. Cloud State, (Medical Laboratory Science) Metro State (Nursing and Business) and MN State Moorhead (Biochemistry, Construction Management and Operations Management) • Mesabi Range Community and Technical College General Engineering • Normandale Community College Elementary Education General Engineering
How do we partner? • Articulation Agreements • Program Development • Shared Services and Resources ( Grants, market research, research, student services, library etc.) • Dual Enrollment
Dual Enrollment Admitted into a 4 year completion track • Required to finish the first two years and all requirements at the 2 year institution. • Will be formally admitted to the university upon completion of the 2 year degree. Must still meet admission requirements and apply for admission Provides the student with a clear pathway for bachelor degree completion
Articulation Agreements and 2+2 Agreements Articulation Agreement – Provides a course-by course guide of how courses transfer in from a community or technical college and also lists the remaining courses required to earn a bachelors degree. 2+2 Agreement – Accepts the first 60 credits as a package and provides a listing of courses required to earn a bachelors degree.
What is Bachelor Completion? • Bachelor Completion – A program that that is structured for students who have already completed the MnSCU transfer curriculum and are seeking a bachelors degree. • 2+2 Programs – Programs designed specifically for students who have completed an Associates degree at a Community or Technical College where they complete 60 credits and enroll in our program for the last 2 years to complete 60 credits.
