2006-2007 • SMP and ENVR 401 group prepare a feasibility study for the Senate Sub-committee on environment • SMP holds Community consultation • Series of focused roundtables
2007-2008 • Joint Senate-Board of Governors annual meeting is given the theme of Sustainability • Sustainability Director • Further development of the SSMU EnviroCom • Faculty Forum * (Upcoming) • Proposal finalized, made available
Proposal – Mission “To enable McGill University to strive towards institutional leadership in environmental, social and economic sustainability.”
Proposal – Mission “To enable McGill University to strive towards institutional leadership in environmental, social and economic sustainability.” • To that end, the Sustainability Centre will undertake: • Research and Innovation • Implementation • Cooperation • Not just another research centre: • The University as laboratory • Action Research: the link between research and implementation • Engaging students to pursue solutions-based learning on a local scale.
Proposal – Organizational Structure • Not an office, not a center • Ideally located directly under Associate Vice Principal Services • Multi-stakeholder Advisory Board • The Mac link

Proposal - Staff • Sustainability Director(s), full-time • Research Coordinator (student work-study) • Administrative Assistant, two days a week • Research Advisory Board: 3 faculty members from various faculties
Proposal – Operations • Identification of Action Areas (Advisory Board) • Identification and Consultation of Project Participants (all actors with Sustainability Director) • Research Coordination (Research Advisors and Research Coordinator) • Research (students) • Proposal for Implementation (students) • Including proposed timed, measurable objectives • Implementation (Sustainability Director, students, relevant stakeholders) • Monitoring and Review (Advisory Board) • Archiving (Research Coordinator)

Proposal - Funding • Possible revenue sources: • Administrative operating budget • Alumni // Campaign McGill • Faculty and staff fee levies on an opt-in basis • Student fee levies (with opt-outs) • External grants
