Weygand Hall Sustainable Innovation Education Project The Center for Sustainability The mission of the Center is to advocate for the integration of sustainability principles in the core educational Bridgewater State University mission: teaching and learning, research, campus operations and regional outreach. • The Center for Sustainability (CfS) is coordinated by Associate Professor of Political Science, Dr. DenizLeuenberger and assisted by • Dr. Ryan LaBrozzi. • Specific sustainability attributes at Bridgewater State University include: • Solar hot water • Water efficient fixtures • Reuse of rain water • Day lighting/sun shading • Motion sensors for lighting • Construction waste management reductions Opening in the Fall 2013, Weygand Hall is a gold LEED certified building Creating a sustainable today for a better tomorrow Bridgewater State University 131 Summer Street Bridgewater, MA 02325
The Weygand Hall Project and the Center for Sustainability Need You! “We are excited to expand the minds of the students by educating them in sustainability. The new Weygand Hall project is going to teach us how to better care for ourselves and our earth.” -Dr. DenizLeunenberger Electrical: HVAC: The Bridgewater State University George A. Weygand Residence Hall is proud to be part of The Massachusetts Zero Net Energy Buildings Task Force. A zero net energy building is one that is optimally efficient and over the course of a year generates energy onsite using clean renewable sources in a quantity equal to or greater than the total amount of energy consumed onsite. Some of these features include: Condensing Boilers Air-cooled Chiller Terminal Units: Valance vs. Fan Coils (with window kill switches) Residence Suites: 100% Outside Air Energy Recovery Unit (Enthalpy Wheel) High Efficiency Lighting Occupancy Sensor Based Lighting Control Plumbing: High Efficiency Gas Domestic Water Heaters Dual-flush Water Closets Solar Domestic Water Pre-heat System Storm water Reuse System (Water Closet and Urinal Flushing) About Weygand Hall • Faculty and students are invited to help the Center for Sustainability incorporate the new Weygand Hall into credited curriculum at Bridgewater State University. This contest is open to all and those who wish to participate may submit a proposal on how students can learn and gain credit from the Weygand Hall Sustainable Innovation Education Project. Please submit your proposal no later than May 1st to the Center for Sustainability. • Think green and learn!
