Tape Report • (Picture free, obviously not as relaxed as Shaun ;-) • Same two 10K slot SL8500 tape libraries • One for T1 usage. • All tape servers are at 2.1.13-9 • Not had any problems with this setup • Not put 2.1.14 on yet
Tape Report • Running a mix of drive types • T10KA – Only used by gen (alice; t2k; ilc….) • 9 drives • T10KB – Only used by CMS • 9 drives • T10KC – Only used by Atlas and LHCB • 14 drives
Tape Futures • Drives • Two T10KD drives on-site waiting to be installed • More (8-10) planned for next FY. • Probably migrate CMS to the Ds, and gen to the Bs (but plan liable to change to keep usage to one library) • Need to move off A to make space for C media • Library • Currently on FRS 6.05. Will need to upgrade to FRS 8.3 before we can use D drives. Early 2014.
Tape Futures • ACSLS • Currently on 8.02 running on Solaris with a cold standby machine (only Solaris in department) • Will upgrade to 8.3 for D drive support • 8.3 supported on RedHat (Yeh!!!!!) • Have installed ACSLS 8.3 on a SL6 box (fully Quattorised). Appears to work. • Testing a problem. Have dumped and restored production DB onto the 8.3 system. • With no library to talk to everything is off-line, but commands are working. CSI interface OK. • Without a spare library to connect to will have to take some downtime and connect to main library.
LTFS • Had a play with Oracles Open (free) LTFS implementation • Does what it says on the tin • Performance not as good as native • 160MB/sec as apposed to 240 • Still a solution looking for a problem as far as I can tell (certainly in our environment).
