Where to Begin? How I see it Voice is the style of writing as determined by the genre or audience. It includes the use of tone, diction, syntax, narration, and perspective.
Why Teach Voice? • Students can become better readers of literature if they are able to recognize authorial voice ,and the associated stylistic effects. • Students can be better writers if they understand how to find their own voice, especially in different genres with a variety of intended audiences. • Voice is often an expected part of assessment but not as often taught explicitly.
The 6+1 Traits and “Voice” How to get a 5 in Voice: The writer speaks directly to the reader in a way that is individual, compelling, and engaging. The writer crafts the writing with an awareness and respect for the audience and the purpose for writing.
