  3. Cultural Traits • A unique assortment of behaviors and beliefs that distinguish a society • EX: Music, Language, and Hygiene • Africa has the fewest common cultural traits • Europe is not connected by language

  4. Cultural Diffusion • Ideas that spread • Windmills were created in Northern Europe and spread to Texas

  5. Globalization • Globalization has good and bad • Has effected the middle east. Riots such as those that began in Tunisia spread spontaneously across Asia • But helps with the increased availability of medical services

  6. Damages to the physical environment • Diesel motors negatively affected the environment because it contains more pollutions than any other fuel • Or near cataclysmic effect because of Russia’s dependence on nuclear energy in Chernobyl

  7. Human-Environment Interaction • Affects economics • Desalinization plants are used to obtain fresh water • Building of dams allows for population growth • Geothermal energy power plant next to a volcano • But man has not utilized all possible forms of energy

  8. Economic Activities • Primary – traditional • Secondary – labor force • Tertiary – Combination of the past 2 and technology • Quanternary – based solely on technology or service oriented

Things you should already know! • Women face unequal status with men globally • Know the difference bw developed and developing • African Americans came to America against their will (slaves) but have since assimilated • The Amazon – Brazil • Push-Pull Factors • How boundaries are made for countries • Religious intolerance leads to job discrimination • Know all three regions (formal, functional, perc) • Population Pyramids!!! How do they look and why! • Why will countries fight against one another (resoruces) • Urbanization = cities!! • Be able to tell a graph!
