Introduction • Training of European Statisticians important project for the European Commission • Internalised at Eurostat since 2004 • Around 30 high quality training courses annually available • Regular exchange between Eurostat and Member States on future needs and orientation Investment in the Future 2 / 14-15 September 2009

Objective of the ESS LDF The European Statistical System Learning and Development Framework (ESS LDF) aims to foster the competence of the human capital in the ESS in order to raise the overall quality of European statistical information according to the principles stated in the European Code of Practise. Content of the ESS LDF • Organisation of training courses in the ESS countries • Identification of competence profiles for European Statisticians • New tools and instruments: • Set up a pool of trainers and agree on the modalities for their exchange • Portal for Learning and Development in the ESS Investment in the Future 2 / 14-15 September 2009
Content of the ESS LDF (contd.) • Implementation of learning methods /methodologies complementary to training: • e-learning • short term study visits, e.g. Eurostat pilot in June 2009 • a summer school • exchange of good practice to enhance learning and development • JUNIOR nets Investment in the Future 2 / 14-15 September 2009
