People like badges… But does owning a badge prove you have the skills it represents? Some of my badges… All now available on e-bay!
Digital badges: “ an online representation of a skill you’ve earned” Open Badges take the idea further: • skills are verified through a credible organisation.
Open Badges • Led by Mozilla Organisation • Open, online standard for verifying skills, learning, interests and achievements • Imageswith Metadatahard-coded into them • Recognise formalor informal learning • Collect badges from multiple sourcesinto a single backpack • Share through social networks

What we are doing at Staffs • InfoZone: Library and IT induction • Add on to Digital Skills workshops for students • Lecturer (Law) interested • Staff CPD events/activities - planned • Attendance at TeachMeets

How we do it… • Award badge via WordPress • Email sent to participants • Click on link to go to Mozilla site • Add the badge to your backpack (or create a new one) • Show off your achievements! http://blogs.staffs.ac.uk/isbadges
Things to consider • Define clear criteria/definition of achievement to earn a badge • Be clear on what you want to achieve • Try a small scale pilot to confirm processes • Get departmental/institutional support • Publicise!
