Internship Programs on the Rise • Many high schools are using internship to bridge the “School to Work” gap – the gap between high school curricula and college or work experiences for many youth (Barton, 1991; Bhandari, Medrich, & Visher, 2004; Levine, 2010; Waight & Wentling, 2001) • Tracking student performance, documenting internal processes and external internship mentor relationships (email communications, phone calls, site visits and statistics) for internship programs is an identified challenge.
LLA Internship Program • Students intern one whole day a week, one internship per semester • Student complete weekly logs, assignments and do a final internship presentation. • 70+ active mentor site partners in private, public and nonprofit sectors

The Future: Manage relationships with mentors more effectively and track student progress more efficiently. • Customer (or Constituent) Relationship Management (CRM) software - Patel (2011) defined CRM as: “database software designed to facilitate management of an organization’s relationships with its constituents. ” • Update database capability – Salesforce? • Functional database that can leverage the benefits of cloud computing and be integrated with CRM technology • CRM technology like Raiser’s Edge Challenges: Security and privacy in “the Cloud (Kirkham, 2011)” Paying for it all – New technology = $$$
