This presentation will • Illustrate how to use the AVL to locate professional research from the comfort of your classroom. • Teach you how to use EBSCOhost.

Select Campus and Library. • Any Alabama citizen can access the AVL at home with a user name and password that can be obtained at the public library. • All schools and libraries have automatic access.
Select EBSCOhost Web. • EBSCOhost Web (French) (German) (Spanish) • This database contains many full text scholarly journals for research uses. • The next screen will allow you to select databases.
Excellent databases for educators include: • Professional Development CollectionDesigned for professional educators, this database provides a highly specialized collection of over 500 full text journals, including nearly 350 peer-reviewed titles. Professional Development Collection is the most comprehensive collection of full text education journals in the world.
Academic Search Elite • This multi-disciplinary database offers full text for nearly 1,850 scholarly journals, including nearly 1,300 peer-reviewed titles. Covering virtually every area of academic study, Academic Search Elite offers full text information dating as far back as 1985. This database is updated on a daily basis via EBSCOhost.
ERIC • ERIC, the Educational Resource Information Center contains more than 2,200 digests along with references for additional information and citations and abstracts from over 980 educational and education-related journals.
While searching… • Notice that each database has additional information and a title list. • Select the databases of interest to you. • Click continue. • The next screen allows you to enter a topic and limit your search.
You should • Enter a topic. • Select full text. • Select Scholarly/ Peer reviewed journals. (If desired.) • Select search.
When entering the subject reading and full text: • There were 11,015 results from Academic Search Elite. • Titles included: Curriculum Influences on Growth in Early Reading Fluency for Students with Academic and Behavioral Risks: A Descriptive Study.

Searching by Periodical • Select basic search. • Click on the publication tab. • Type in a journal name or browse. • Select the journal and browse the issues.
Select a topic of your choosing. • Choose your limiters. • Hit search and examine all of the results. • Happy searching!!!
