Architectural Theory 3 Architectural design process, Dimensions of spaces and structural elements.
Architectural design process Architectural design process consists of three stages; • Researching • Analysing • planning
Researchingstage • Learning the zoning status : According to the local regulations; Permition to number of levels, setback distance, construction orders (attached, detached, blocked etc.)
Programing the building: Listing the needs and desired spaces. Defining the number of users, function(s) of the building (dwelling, ofis, shopping, school, hotel etc.),
Verifing the amount of capital: This stage determines the building quality and programme.
Analysing stage This stage consists of site analysis; • Location of the site • Place of the site • Topographic Conditions • Geological Conditions • Site direction specification • Climatical conditions • Conditions of local building supplies
Planning Stage • In planning stage we have to use significant informations: Architectural theories, building science, contemporary building materials, static. • In planning stage we use the scales-projects below; General plan /site plan (vaziyet planı) 1/500 or 1/200 Draft project (avan Proje) 1/200 or 1/100 Certain project (kesin proje) 1/100 or 1/50 Construction project (uygulama projesi) 1/50 Details ( detay planlar) 1/20, 1/10, 1/5, 1/2, 1/1
Dimensions of spaces and structural elements. According to regulations minimum spaces in a house are; 1 living room 1 bedroom or bedding niche 1 kitchen or cooking space 1 bath or shower 1 toilet
According to regulations minimum dimension of the spaces in a house are; Room 2.80x4.00 m Bedroom or working room 2.10x2,80 m Kitchen or cooking space 1.50x2.00 m Bath or shower 1.20x2.00 m Toilet 0.90x1.20 m Circulation ( hall, corridor) 1.00x1.20 m
Height of the spaces • In settled dwelling areas (iskan edilmiş konut alanlarında) Height of the level is 2.40 m • In unsettled dwelling areas (iskan edilmemiş konut alanlarında) Height of the level is 2.20 m
Height of the spaces in different functional buildings* • Dwelling regular level 2.50-3.00 m basement level 1.90-2.30 m roof level 2.20-2.50 m • Store 2.50-4.50 m • Shopping center 4.50-5.50 m • Hotel 3.00-5.00 m • Hospital room 3.00-3.50 m • Conference room or wedding room 3.50 m • Commercial and industrial areas 3.00 m * Ground to ceiling
Volume of spaces • It is calculated from the minimum volume of air need to breathe for each person: Each person in a house needs 16-24 m3 air. In well vantilated spaces, the ranges will decrease to 7.5-10 m3.
Windows are needed for lightening and ventilation. For natural lightening we have to leave window spaces of 1/10 to 1/2 floor area.
Roof • Roof slope is 33% in most of the municipality regulations. • Maximum eaves distance is 1.50 m.
Chimney • Chimney’s height has to be over than ridge of the roof, minimum 0.50 m. • In terrace roofs minimum Chimney’s height is 1.50 m
