  3. M W IND isPOWER

  4. WIND POWER – ACROSS THE GLOBE

  5. Wind Energy - Indian Scenario Indian Wind Power - Growth rate

  6. Wind Energy – Indian Scenario • Potential to be World leader: potential of 45,000 MW of windpower • More than 4200 MW of wind power already installed • Additional capacity of 10,000 MW through Renewable Energy by 2012 – Govt of India • Forecast for the next five years is approx. 5300MW • About 85% of total investment from Private sector • Average growth rate at 28 % in the last three years • Market moving towards better ,bigger & efficient Turbines Source: BTM Consult ApS-March 2005

  7. Wind Power – Tamil Nadu • Tamil Nadu contributes 61% of the installed capacity in India • The estimated potential in Tamil Nadu is about 4,500 MW • Ideal geographical location of State – east of western ghats - very good mountain-pass wind available • Stable wind power policy of TNEB • Very successful wind projects are based in TN

  8. Wind Power Concepts

  9. ..Generating power from Wind......

  10. WIND POWER - SITE TO END USER

  11. Wind Power Policy – India

  12. PRESENT POLICIES OF TNEB • SALE OF POWER TO TNEB • WHEELING OF POWER • BANKING FACILITY • NO THIRD PARTY SALE

  13. SALE OF POWER TNEB BUYS THE POWER GENERATED BY THE WINDMILL AT Rs.2.70 PER UNIT WITHOUT ESCALATION

  14. WHEELING OF POWER FOR CAPTIVE USERS TNEB permits the Investors to Wheel (Transfer) the Windmill Power generated at site to their Industry (only HT category) any where within the State WHEELING CHARGE IS 5% OF THE ENERGY EXPORTED 18 lakh units generated at site Wheeling 5% 17.10 lakh units credited at factory

  15. BANKING OF SURPLUS POWER IS PERMITTED BY TNEB • Any surplus power available after adjustment can be banked with TNEB. • The Banking period is for 12 months. • All the banked units must be consumed by 31st March of a financial year.

  16. NEG Micon Profile

  17. MILESTONES • NEG Micon has its presence in India for the past 16 years • More than 3000 Micon make wind turbines are in operation at various wind potential sites • Established its operation as a 100% subsidiary of NEG Micon A/s, Denmark in 1996 • First to introduce large capacity wind turbines in 1997 with 750 kW capacity • More than 500 MW wind power projects commissioned as on date • The first to introduce “Mega Watt” capacity wind turbines in 2004 with 1650 kW capacity

  18. ON THE TECHNOLOGY FRONT… • NEG Micon has the wide product range – 750 kW to 4.5 MW • Expertise in various kinds of wind power technology – onshore & offshore • Wind Turbines customized to suit Indian wind & grid conditions • State of the art assembly unit in Chennai – 600 turbines / year on single shift basis • Remote surveillance of all wind turbines in India & Asia Pacific Service facility at all sites in the country

  19. NEG MICON WIND PARKS WITH SUBSTATION FACILITY : KONGAL NAGARM 82 MW WITH NEG Micon SUBSTATION PONNAPURAM 47.25 MW ANTHIYUR 65.25 MW WITH NEG Micon SUBSTATION AYIKUDI/SURANDAI 53.25 MW WITH NEG Micon SUBSTATION VEERANAM 200 MW PANAKUDI 38.45 MW WITH NEG Micon SUBSTATION

  20. NEG MICON AS WIND-SITE DEVELOPER • Veeranam WIND-PARK : VEERANAM –PARK INSTALLATION CAPACITY : 200 MW WIND CHANNEL BASED ON PROVEN SHENCOTTAH WINDPASS WIND DATAS FROM 6 WINDMASTs GENERATION ESTIMATES i) NM 48/750 18.0 Lac units per year ii)NM82/1650 54.0 Lac units per year SUBSTATION FACILITY 230/33 KV SS BUILT BY NEG MICON FOR TNEB 4*50 MVA TRANSFORMERS 33 KV DEDICATED FEEDER LINES

  21. AN OUTLOOK OF VEERANAM SITE NM 48 in operation for the past 5 years 80 *NM 48 in operation from 2003

  22. Infrastructure Development by N.E.G Micon • N.E.G Micon believes in creating complete infrastructure for the smooth running of wind power projects

  23. Product Range - India • NM750/48 ; 750 kW– 55 Metres Hub Height 48 Metres Rotor Diameter • The largest selling product World-wide - Since 1995 • Fine tuned for Indian conditions: Tropical/Grid • Well proven in the Indian market since 1999 • Over 2300 WTG’s worldwide • Over 500 WTG’s in India • DNV Certified

  24. Product Range - India • NM 82/1650 ; 1650kW – 78 meters hub height 82 meters rotor diameter • ACTIVE – STALL TM Technology • Designed specifically for low and moderate wind regimes – Rated 1650kw output at lower speeds of 11-12 metres/seconds • Highest Plant Load Factor (PLF)Turbine in India nearing 37% to 42% • DNV Certified • Launched in India – March 2004 -More than 50 MW already installed !

  25. Why move to Megawatt turbines • Better suited for low & medium wind regime • New technology developments in this class 1650 kw PLF Estimated : 37 – 42% Achieved : 35 – 37% Average kw PLF Achieved : 24 – 28% • Higher PLF, Lower investment cost leading to better • competitiveness with conventional mode of power generation • Better grid compliance technology • Better utilisation of site • 5%-30% more production in 1650KW WTG between 5m/s and 13 m/s than KW class and other MW class WTG.

  26. Power Curve of a 1650 kW WEG (Active Stall) Rated wind speed 12 m/s Rated wind speed 16 m/s Power Curve of a 750 kW WEG

  27. 1000 to 1650 kW 500 to 750 kW 200 to 400 kW

  28. Industry Wise Installation of NEG Micon

  29. Why CAPTIVE USERS SEGMENT is a major beneficiary • Power cost component is 15-20 % in Textiles whereas in other countries it is only 10% Lifecycle cost of wind power generation is relatively low • No increase on the fuel cost i.e wind, unlike petroleum based fuels • Very short installation period • Ease of Operation & Maintenance • Stand-alone project

  30. Economics of Windmill Investment

  31. INCOME TAX BENEFITS WHAT IS IN IT FOR INVESTORS • Tax Holiday for 10years.Section 80I(a) • Accelerated Depreciation benefit available : 80%

  32. PROJECT ASSUMPTIONS • Cost of 750 KW Machine : Rs.360 Lakhs • Estimated Generation : 18.0 Lakh Kwh • Debt-Equity Ratio : 75:25 • Interest Rate & Repyt Period : 10% & 7 Yrs • O&M and Insurance : Rs.4.50 L Rs.2 L • Sales Realization (Captive) : Rs.3.50/Kwh • Location : Tamilnadu

  33. WHAT IS IN IT FOR INVESTORS • WINDMILL INVESTMENT is a Financially feasible Investment Proposition • Average Cost per Kwh would be Rs.2.16 (10 yrs) and Rs.2.07 (over a 20 year period) • Investment Payback period of 6-7 years • Internal Rate of Return : 14%. • Cash Surplus for 1 No. 750 Kw Machine would be around Rs. 140 L at the end of 10 years • and for 1 No. 1650 Kw it is Rs 556 L in 10 years

  34. THANK YOU
