  1. Setup instructions for pcAnywhere 10.5 These steps will guide you through installing the pcAnywhere Host software so that we can remote control your PC from NZ! Once installed, it will only provide access when: 1) You have ‘launched’ the software 2) You are connected to the Internet 3) Those connecting know the username and password you set. 4) Those connecting know your IP address … which changes every time you connect (with dial up and DSL). This way security is guaranteed as you control when we get access and can prevent hackers from accessing the machine.

  2. Insert the pcAnywhere CD and it should automatically pop up with this menu. Select Install pcAnywhere 10.5 Host Only

  3. Select Host Only

  4. The installation will flash and wizz for a while. When this screen appears just press Next

  5. Click Accept then Next

  15. Finish and then Yes to restart ...

  16. OK … That was the easy part. Now life gets complex. When you reboot you should have a pcAnywhere icon on your desktop …Double-click it ...

  17. Once pcAny launches Right-click the NETWORK, CABLE, DSL entry then select Properties from the menu.

  18. Leave the entries on the first two tabs unchanged … we want the Callers tab ...

  19. First make sure that the Authentication type box says pcAnywhere … if not, select it from the dropdown. Now we need to create a new caller so click the first button on the toolbar.

  20. In the Login Name: box put: __________________ In the Password and Confirm put: ______________ Now move to the Privileges tab

  21. Superuser please … then OK.

  22. On the Security Options tab select pcAnywhere as Encryption level and Deny lower encryption level then OK

  23. To get pcAnywhere ready to accept incoming connections double-click the NETWORK, CABLE, DSL option. You must also be connected to the Internet to allow us to connect to you and remote control your machine.

  24. Once the pcAnywhere host is launched you will see a small ‘PC’ with a grey screen at the bottom right of your screen. It we are connected and using your computer you will see that the ‘PC’ screen turns green.

  25. Now as the last step … you need to open a Command Prompt by going Start, All Programs, Accessories and selecting it from there.

  26. When the ‘black box’ appears type IPCONFIG and then press Enter. You will get a listing like the one shown. I need to know your IP address (the top one) from here. The exact format of the screen will depend on your connection but I need the number ASAP. Either phone me (64-9-627-1062) or email me dale@signz.co.nz

  27. At this stage we can only get access while you are connected to the ‘net so this means leaving your machine online - possibly for a few hours at a time. If you are using a dial-up connection this means your phone cannot be used during this time. Once your machine is fully installed we will install a utility that you can ask to automatically dial up to the ‘net and start pcAnywhere at a given time (say 6AM Australian, 8AM NZ time) to avoid having to leave it on all day and night! It would also automatically send the IP address so no user intervention required …. Dale
