North Carolina Academic Scholars Program • All Franklin County graduation requirements must be met in addition to NC Scholars requirements. • Student must have an overall four-year grade point average of 3.5 or better • Courses Required • English – 4 credits • Mathematics – 4 credits (Algebra I and above) • Science – 3 credits • Social Studies – 3 credits • Foreign Language – 2 credits • Healthful Living – 1 credit • Career/Technical Education – 1 credit • Arts Education – 1 credit • Elective credits (at least 2 level II courses)

  10. Grade Classification • The grade to which students are assigned is based on the number of credits they have earned. • 0-5 credits = Freshman • 6-11 credits = Sophomore • 12-19 credits = Junior • 20 or more credits (and a schedule that qualifies for graduation) = Senior

  11. Grade Point Average (GPA) • GPA is found by converting all your final grades into the corresponding number on the GPA scale and then averaging the numbers. • Honors and Advanced Placement classes are worth more points. • Honors +1 • Advanced Placement (AP) +2

Attendance • Students must be present in class at least 80 out of 90 days of the semester in order to receive course credit. • Attendance is taken by period. • Students should bring in notes from physicians as soon as possible to have their absence(s) marked as “excused”. • If a student exceeds 10 absences in a class, he/she must provide evidence of excused absences (a note from a doctor’s office or court) in order to receive course credit. Only these absences are eligible to be waived.

  17. Online Classes • Students must be VERY self-motivated to get the work done • Students need a 3.0 GPA or better • Students must fill out an application and have a teacher recommendation • Great opportunity to earn college credit

  18. Online Course Providers • VGCC • Students must take 2 classes to get 1 high school credit • Students must pass placement test or score at least 500 on Math and Verbal on SAT • UNCG i-School • Virtual Public Schools (high school credit only)

Vance-Granville Face to Face Courses(for Juniors & Seniors) • Courses: Cosmetology, Welding, Criminal Justice, Bioprocessing • Students who take courses away from the BHS campus are representing our school and are expected to act accordingly! • Attendance • Only 8 absences allowed • No absences are excused • Cheating – results in expulsion from program • Sleeping during class – after warning, will result in expulsion from class • Bunn High School Student Code of Conduct still applies!

  20. Teacher/Office Assistants • Must be a Senior or a Junior with a 2.5 or higher GPA. • Attendance IS important for TAs. • Excessive absences will result in the loss of position. • The teacher to whom you are assigned MUST know where you are at all times. • TA assignments will not be given until the beginning of the school year. • TAs do not receive a course credit.

  21. SAT/ACT • Not necessary for Community Colleges • SAT vs. ACT • Start taking in Spring of Junior year • Preparation • SAT Prep class • PSAT (10th & 11th grade) • Make sure to send your scores to all schools where you are interested in applying (Can send 4 for free)

  22. College Applications • Begin working on them in August/September of Senior Year • CFNC.org is good resource for applying to NC schools • Recommendation letters – don’t wait until the last minute!!

  23. Transcripts • Request forms in Guidance • Send transcript in with paper application • Online applications – need to request transcript to be sent • Allow a week to receive
