  1. Old Testament Lesson 6 Genesis 2-3

  2. Genesis 2:1-4deals with the seventh day.God works in days 1-6.God rests day 7.

  3. God Works - while the act of work would seem to be a given for the human race, it is interesting to note that work was not a “curse.”

  4. Work - to use physical or mental effort to make or do something.

  5. Mel a'kah - 1) occupation, work, businessa) occupation, businessb) propertyc) work (something done or made)d) workmanshipe) service, usef) public business1) political2) religious

  6. Exodus 31:2,3 “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. 3 And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,

  7. So God links together the blessings of being filled with the Spirit of God wisdomunderstanding knowledge andwork.

  8. Work should be an enjoyable activity. How often do we allow Satan to steal the joy that God intended for us to have as we work.

  9. Verse 3 helps us to understand the results of God’s work.3 And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done. ______ ______

  10. Create - 1) to create, shape, forma) (Qal) to shape, fashion, create (always with God as subject)1) of heaven and earth2) of individual man3) of new conditions and circumstances 4) of transformations

  11. b) (Niphal) to be created1) of heaven and earth2) of birth3) of something new4) of miracles

  12. c) (Piel)1) to cut down2) to cut out2) to be fata) (Hiphil) to make yourselves fat If you hate “work” maybe you are not going about it God’s way.

  13. As stated in a previous lesson, God is all powerful. He did not expend so much energy that He had to rest to build Himself up.

  14. Rest here means – to cease, put an end to.He go finished. I believe that He just took a day to enjoy what was created.

  15. Now God recaps and adds detail to the story.“Now theses are the generations…..” Last week we learned that this statement signals a new section of the book.

  16. He starts out saying there wasn’t anyone to “work” the ground. Work is a Pleasure Not a Curse

  17. God formed Man from the dust.Hebrew for man is Adam.God breathed into him life.

  18. Vs 8,9 God placed him into a garden to work it. God is a creative being; we are made in His image. Creativity is part of our nature. We seek to create in order to be fulfilled. We seek out “work.”

  19. Where was Eden?http://www.kjvbible.org/rivers_of_the_garden_of_eden.html

  20.  8 Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. • Eden • Garden in the land • East

  21. Read Genesis 2:10-14 10 A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters. 11 The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold.

  22. 12 (The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin [a] and onyx are also there.) 13 The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush.

  23. 14 The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Asshur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

  24. The Tigris and the Euphrates can still be located on maps today. The problem is, where are Pishon and Gihon.

  25. Verse 13 The name of the second river is Gihon. It winds through the entire land of Cush. The names come from the 10th chapter of Genesis and are usually called the Table of Nations.

  26. In the 6th verse of chapter 10 we see the four sons of Ham. They are Cush, Mizram, Put and Canaan.

  27. Canaan - modern PalestinePut – Libya in No. AfricaMizram – EgyptCush – Ethiopia Ethiopia contains the upper NileEgypt contains the lower Nile.

  28. Therefore, the third river, Gihon, is the Nile. So, where is the Pishon of verse 11?

  29. Pishon winds through or compasses the entire land of Havilah. It has been suggested that Pishon’s modern day location would be the Red Sea.

  30. http://vqpub.org/VisionQuest  Publishing, Inc I found this website very interesting. There are maps and articles on Eden’s location. http://vqpub.org/Eden.htmcontains information on the Garden of Eden’s location.
